That's a masterpiece. I love the portrait and I consider it as one of the best I have ever seen! It's surreal! LOve the light that gives a deep meaning to the picture. Gorgeous!

Fantastic but frightning at the same time! The look is quite intimidating and the paleness coupled with the glow and the illusion of an elongated and pointed face due to the beard blending in with the angle of the cheeks gives it an otherworldly look. Like some kind of spirit conjured up for us.

Bernt,
Originally, I was very curious to find out how you did the lighting on this. I have an upcoming headshot portrait shoot with an actor with similar facial features and thought this might make for an artistic way to start. Then I read how much light work you did on it in Photoshop. So, I suppose my real question is, how would you set up to light this if you were trying for this effect from the start, within the camera?
Thanks!
-Jake

stupid question (i'm just full of those), exactly what part of this is manipulated? it looks like it's a brilliant self portrait. i don't see anything about it that would make it fall under the manip section.

veddy veddy evil, my good sir. The dark shadows on the eyes compliment the mood of the it very well. In fact, all of the shadows work well. Hazar

disturbes the human being to see others without the eyes...since the eyes are the mirror or window to our soul...a face without eyes..is somehow soulless... I love the disturbing atmosphere I get from it...wonderful light...
amazing me again, carlzon...
