Description

For Month of Fear  2018 - “Lies“

“An evil soul producing holy witness
Is like a villain with a smiling cheek;
A goodly apple rotten at the heart:
O, what a goodly outside falsehood hath!”
— William Shakespeare

“False words are not only evil in themselves, but they infect the soul with evil.”
— Plato

The “heart rot” is a tree disease in which fungus causes the decay of the heartwood at the center of the trunk. Mushrooms often appear on the outside of the bark as an indication of the disease.

I love the monochrome here, it makes it look like stone. Beautiful work

This master piece is breath taking! Love how subtle and soft the shading looks like. It looks like the subject is a ghost of some sort with her decayed heart

Wow, simple, focused, and absolutely haunting. I particularly love the beads of water you've sprinkled into her hair.

Very cool. I particularly like how you have done her eyelids and the droplets of water/sap/pearls in her hair. Those remind me of the kind of big mushroom that looks as though it pulls sap out of trees, and the liquid gathers in little jewel like clusters on the surface of the mushroom. The droplets are beautiful, but they harmonize in a haunting way with the cluster of mushrooms. The whole piece reminds me of the opening to a Vandermeer story, The Cage, near the end of City of Saints and Madmen.
