They still had samurai swords in WW2? O_o

 

I know officers had those but I thought it was more like a cavalry sabre.

They did go with sabres in the 19th century but then with the whole Japanese pride thing during the war they started issuing more traditional blades like this one. At the start of the war they were quite well made but I have another that was made towards the end of the war and its basically a stick of rust.
