It seems you never like my edited photos, heh. I prefer the second, it's much softer, less harsh.

Yes it did, because I decreased the redness a bit. I did that because I wanted a softer, more smoother look. And when editing skin, there tends to be red tones that are unwanted.

oh ic ^^
i'm not really used to seeing people with red cheeks. at least not where I'm from, so I find redness on one's face really cute or attractive. hahahahahha

Is it messing with the saturation?
I'm curious as to how this works.

No actually. I only decreased the red tones very very slightly, by about 3 I believe. And then I used curves to increase the brightness/contrast/etc.. I also used a black and white layer on overlay, so that probably desaturated it a tiny bit. But those were only minor adjustments, not the main part of the editing.

Well I also did a high-pass/low-pass filter, which helps to smooth the skin but keep it sharp at the same time.

I've been practicing using it...I think I'm starting to get the hang of it. It's tricky.

It's really simple, you just need to play around with it. Typically what I do is when you open it, and it's set to RGB, I drag up the line that's in the middle just a bit, which basically brightens the entire photo, then I drag the top part of the curve up a bit, and the bottom part of the curve down a bit, sort of forming an "s" shape.. You can play around with that, just try to drag it a small bit, otherwise it kind of overdoes it. Also, do it on a new layer, that way if it's too much you can just lower the opacity. Curves is also cool because if you click the drop down box at the top where it says "RGB" you can select either red, green, or blue and edit the colors separately.. If you mix them together you can get some really cool effects.
