Description I decided to create a simple skin retouching action with some new techniques that I am trying out.
Some of the techniques learned from this tutorial: [link] , which was referenced to me by =HouserPhotography
The photo used in the preview was taken by me.

Note: I realize some of you feel that she looks better without the re-touching, and so do I. I think she is a naturally beautiful woman, but not everyone likes their photos to be SOOC, and I just wanted to create a simple touch-up action. If you would like this to be different, then you are more than welcome to create your own, but this is how I wanted it to be.

I would appreciate it if you credited me somewhere in your deviation. Also, link me the image that you used this on and I'll take a peek at it.

Please if you download!

To download:
Click the "Download" button to the left of the screen
Once you have saved the action in a desired location, you may either right click on the action, click "Open with > Adobe Photoshop" or open your actions panel (in Photoshop) and click "Load Actions".

Note: Results may vary, depending on the photograph.

Much prefer the "before" version. The other one looks like she's wearing flour for makup.

It seems you never like my edited photos, heh. I prefer the second, it's much softer, less harsh.

Couldn't disagree more. Obviously our definitions of "soft" and "harsh" are harshly mismatched!

the blush kinda disappeared man... i kinda liked the redness on her cheeks in the before one

Yes it did, because I decreased the redness a bit. I did that because I wanted a softer, more smoother look. And when editing skin, there tends to be red tones that are unwanted.

oh ic ^^
i'm not really used to seeing people with red cheeks. at least not where I'm from, so I find redness on one's face really cute or attractive. hahahahahha

No I know what you mean, it is attractive, and I am not saying there is anything wrong with that. Just lightened it a bit for this particular action .

Is it messing with the saturation?

I'm curious as to how this works.

No actually. I only decreased the red tones very very slightly, by about 3 I believe. And then I used curves to increase the brightness/contrast/etc.. I also used a black and white layer on overlay, so that probably desaturated it a tiny bit. But those were only minor adjustments, not the main part of the editing.

What's the main part?

CarpeSav In reply to veinsrunempty [2009-09-30 22:46:36 +0000 UTC]

Well I also did a high-pass/low-pass filter, which helps to smooth the skin but keep it sharp at the same time.

I've been practicing using it...I think I'm starting to get the hang of it. It's tricky.

CarpeSav In reply to veinsrunempty [2009-10-10 01:47:12 +0000 UTC]

Most definitely. It takes practice, but really keep on practicing and trying out different things, that's the best way to learn. Read lots of tutorials too.

I feel like I've got the hang of it, for the most part, now.

It's really simple, you just need to play around with it. Typically what I do is when you open it, and it's set to RGB, I drag up the line that's in the middle just a bit, which basically brightens the entire photo, then I drag the top part of the curve up a bit, and the bottom part of the curve down a bit, sort of forming an "s" shape.. You can play around with that, just try to drag it a small bit, otherwise it kind of overdoes it. Also, do it on a new layer, that way if it's too much you can just lower the opacity. Curves is also cool because if you click the drop down box at the top where it says "RGB" you can select either red, green, or blue and edit the colors separately.. If you mix them together you can get some really cool effects.
