You know my absolute favourite thing about this? That the model has skin texture. I LOVE that. I'm not saying anything against hyper-real magazine advert smooth skin in photos, but there is something refreshing about seeing a more natural shot.
The lighting instantly makes me think 'sunny day'. The brightness of the light on the lower part of the model's face (framing the red lips beautifully) and the little areas of highlight sneaking in over the folds of fabric in the bottom right hand corner look like midday sunlight and I can imagine the rest of the scene as a beautiful girl sheltering her shoulders from the sun, laughing with her friends on the beach.

Mmm, I did not edit my skin at all in this, I agree with you; skin texture is much more beautiful than the air-brushed look, it's so much more natural.
Hah, I am so glad you thought sunny day, because that is exactly what it was.. It was an exceptionally sunny day out of the gloomy ones that we have had recently, and I really wanted that to show in the photo as well.

I really think you are a fantastic photographer, especially the self-portraits... so I hope you understand what I mean when I say that this image stands out far above the rest of your already excellent portfolio.
First and foremost, the color palette is perfect. Limiting the range of colours is a powerful tool, and you've just nailed it. The red of your lips, the hood, and the skin tones are a narrow range, but just wide enough not to feel like a duotone.
Besides that, the composition is fantastic, the deceptively simple theme is incredibly striking, and the textures are just right.
