Great detail. The new lens does a nice job, if you get back, doesn't it?

yes, unfortunately i have to stand waaaaay back, but it's worth it because the depth of field is much more shallow on this lens.

unclewiddie In reply to carrionshine [2009-01-05 00:50:53 +0000 UTC]

You can make it shallow. But since it is a longer lens, you can have shots with an amazing range of focus.

I hope school went OK.
Have you performed the experiment yet?

AH yes, except I have been very sick, I just got a cold last night, as luck would have it. I have not, I went to school, came home and slept, then woke up and drowned myself in tea, soup, and orange juice.

Maybe you'll feel better tomorrow.
It's been a long Monday after a holiday at work for me.
I lost a contact at the first meeting I went to and it went downhill from there.
Now I get to drive home in my old truck with half a heater and dim headlights, because a drunk wrecked my car the day after Christmas. But at least I have a backup vehicle.

Oh no! This is why I am almost eighteen and don't drive. Other drivers are reckless and have no contempt for the lives of others. I hope you're alright.

You also live close to a major metropolitan area with public transportation options. I don't.
I'm fine. He knocked us both into a water-logged soybean field. We came to a gentle stop, axle deep in mud. It could have been a lot worse.
I saw on one of your postings yesterday, you are going to Sweden in the summer of 2010. Have you figured out where you are going in the fall of 2009?

carrionshine In reply to unclewiddie [2009-01-06 02:14:48 +0000 UTC]

That's true, I'm glad it turned out to be more of a hassle than anything life-threatening. I used to love driving in cars but after my panic attacks I have become afraid of being hit or whatnot, maybe because my first panic attack was in a car, maybe because after all those years where I was afraid to go on planes and people would rebuke me by telling me horrid car tales, it sunk in. Who knows. Nothing is 100% safe, that is for certain.

I'm going off to college, where I haven't decided yet. Most likely, due to personal issues, I will stay close to home for two years and then my third year transfer to the University of Chicago. The summer of 2009 I'm traveling with my family in Seattle, San Francisco, and other places in America I've never been to. Why?

I was just wondering if you had decided on a college. Chicago?

I've never been to Seattle. Went to San Francisco in September 2007. Went to Yosemite, San Simeon, Winchester Mystery House and down the Pacific Coast highway. Took a week, needed another one. You'll have a blast. Everywhere you turn, there is so much to see and shoot.

I'm still trying to hit places I've never been. I'll go out west in May and to Dry Tortugas/Key West sometime in the late summer/fall. I plan on both to be shooting holidays.

Yes, Chicago. I'm from there and I'm dying to get out of Florida

I want to go to Wyoming so badly, I heard it's scenery is fantastic, but I don't think we're going there. I can't wait, especially in new places, the photographer's eye just becomes so very acute!

Oh, that sounds interesting. When you come down to shoot the Tortugas let me know! I don't live that far from the Keys, maybe but a few hours.

I went to Wyoming in 1999 to visit Yellowstone and Grand Tetons and then drove over to Cody. For someone from a flat state, it was amazing. I shot 19 rolls of film and drove more than 1,500 miles in five days. I'll have to go dig out some pix and see if I want to post any of them.

As for the Tortugas, that's why I asked where you would be in the fall of 2009. I still haven't figured out when yet, and have to get up with my friend who lives in Gulf Shores — she wants to go to the Keys too. But if you're around, I was going to give you a chance to shoot my Nikon and even Luanne's Canon. Don't know if I'll haul the 4x5 camera or not.
