the feather was floating on water in a pond. I used a lightbox or my macro photography, ie - the round things series .

Thanks - I found this really hard - i took about 15 shots of this thinking I had lots to choose from - and only one, this one, was in focus. I cannot understand why. Need to go and try again to find out what I was doing and why it didn't work

You're welcome! It looks fine to me, but I can understand your frustration with the focusing. It's a constant battle for me.

Yeah - I think it's because it wasn' moving - it was floating on water - but still - how hard can that be to get in focus, comparied to a bird or insect that is moving all hte time. It must be because of where i was focusing the camera, and because of how small the feather was

That's entirely possible. Moving a camera to get the subject perfectly in focus can be tough. I like using a focusing rail in those situations. I'm just not steady enough to do it otherwise.
