You captured him perfectly! I love his smile, with his trademark cheekbones and what not. The scarf matching the background gives it a really nice effect as well, without taking away from he subject.
It's funny, since you mentioned this commission to me several months ago I've been waiting to see it, and it looks even better than what I thought it would!

very nice portrait, i love the color scheme too, reminds me of the elmore leonard portrait i also like of yours. here i think you could have added just a little more warm color to the scarf rather than so much of the green that is similar to the background. i only write that because you asked for critique, it's very nice like this but i just think a little more dark red/brown in the scarf would be even better.
