Texas A&M is home to more than 1000 student organizations and students are passionately involved. Texas A&M students (Aggies) actively observe a host of unique university traditions. Among these is the university’s core values which include selfless service: giving of oneself for the greater good, without regard to personal gain or recognition.
In 2017, a student was considering ways to give back to Texas A&M when a family tradition sprang to mind. Thinking of the university’s more than 1,100 student veterans, he brainstormed a concept wherein students could raise funds to purchase Christmas wish-list items for student veterans’ children and employ Santa to deliver them at an annual event. And with that, the Maroon Santa program was born.
