You have to have a dA subscription to use/make skins. Tutorial tried + tested with Windows Vista, within the Mozilla Firefox broswer There is more to come, please review all tutorial parts before leaving comment/questions Hope it helps you to have fun making your own skins! How do you edit where your text can go? (for example edit it around a picture in your journal's background)

Great tutorial! It's really wonderfully done and easy to follow. I was able to do most things correctly (:
However, I'm wondering if there's any way to increase the length, not just the height, of the header image. My header image is the right size as far as height goes, but there is a lot of space to the right and left of it. It would be perfect if it could take up the whole space. I tried adjusting the height of my image with Photobucket and even by re-sizing it myself, but it doesn't seem to really do anything to it.

I have been searching DA on and off for months trying to find a tutorial on how to create journal skins. Somehow I'd managed to miss these until today.

how i got around that was just editing the journal skin but remove it's entire contents and just retyping in what's in the tutorial. im having issues making my bottom and top image show up though x.x

Thank you SO MUCH for posting this! When I first looked at it and saw all that code and text I thought, "Oh gosh.....I'm never going to manage this! I'll get confused! It'll be hard!". But I sucked it up and started typing.....slowly......hitting "preview" every once in awhile.
And despite my pessimism and cynicism (and total suckage when it comes to CSS and HTML), I actually put together a journal that was exactly what I wanted and once I got going it really wasn't hard at all! And for that, I am very grateful to you! Thank you for posting this wonderful tutorial that even complete and total losers like me can understand. XD; Once I get my premium account I'll definitely be posting my spiffy new journal. <3

I am super happy to hear that the tutorial was of such help. I agree: the text and coding is an intimidating beast; I haven't coded anything personally in ages, in fact. But nevertheless, I'm happy you were able to come up with your own spiffy journal code. Congrats!
