Changes in this story:

- In the beginning, Belle is to be wed to Gaston, who wants her family’s wealth (which they do not) while Adam is actually the adoptive son of the King and Queen who loves Belle for who she is.
- Belle’s mother is not alive during the events of the story, but her spirit briefly visits her daughter for words of advice. Both she and Maurice want what is best for Belle, not supporting her forced marriage to Gaston.
- Gaston murders Ratigan because he was a “filthy, little beast”, no romantic feelings are involved between two characters.
- The Land of the Dead is more of a street alley, swarmed by giant mice, rats and insects.
- The pastor has a minor role and does not order to have Adam locked in his room.
- Mary is both Mrs. Plum and the Black Widow, being an emotional support to Ratigan.
- When the rodents walk the earth, no wedding between Victoria and Barkis takes place.
