Just a little note: Jelani is an Inktoling, or an Inkling/Octoling hybrid. His son is a cross between an Inktoling and a Vampire Squid Inkling.

A little something for father's day 2016 along with a story I wrote. Bahati is around... 8-12 here (and of course Jelani is an adult), that's why Bahati's skin is still the same colour as his ink and the suckers on his tentacles haven't started developing yet. On the other hand, Jelani's suckers on his tentacles are just out of angle.

  The Squid Sisters' concert had not yet started, but many inklings had come out anyways for they wanted the first and the best seats. "I can't wait to see this, it's gonna be so good!" Bahati yapped, jumping with excitement. "The squid sisters may be great at singing, but they're pretty mediocre when it comes to battles if you compare them to dad" Imani interrupted. "What do you mean? Everyone likes the Squid Sisters" Bahati retorted. "I didn't say I didn't like them, I just think dad is a better squid than either one of the Squid Sisters" Imani explained. "Now now, you two, settle down. It'll be a while before we get to see them" Jelani beckoned. "A while? Puh. Let's see who gets to see them first!" Imani challenged. "I'm going to see them first!" Bahati replied. "No, I will!" Imani shouted as the two raced off. "Imani, Bahati, come back here!" Esperanza scolded as she ran after them. "Well, I guess I have to go too" Jelani sighed as he ran after her. "Wait for me!" he yelled. Some of the Inklings in the line looked at them with a mixture of confusion and annoyance while others laughed, but Jelani did not pay attention to them.

  "I said come back!" Esperanza yelled once more. "We'll come back another time" Bahati joked as he ran ahead of Imani while she struggled to push her way through. "Sorry, excuse me, I don't mean to but..." Imani protested as she squished through the rest of the line. After a while, Bahati got tired of running. "Where am I?" he asked. "You're not anywhere near the front, kid. You should've come earlier if you wanted the best first seats!" another Inkling called. "Where's dad... and big sis... and mom?!" Bahati wailed. "Dad! Mom! Big sis! Where are you?" Bahati called. A while after Esperanza caught Imani in her tracks, Jelani heard Bahati's cries for help. "Wait here. I'll go look for Bahati" Jelani reminded her. "But it'll be a while before you find him!" Esperanza warned him. "Listen, we're in this together. You've already found Imani, I'll go look for her brother" Jelani told her. "No, I need to look for him. Anything could happen to him" she fretted. "You know I always keep my word" Jelani told her. "I know, but I'm concerned about how long it will take. If you take too long it might be too late" she replied once more. "Just trust me. Once I find him, I'll bring him back and we'll give these lil' ruffians a good talking to" Jelani promised her. Esperanza only sighed. "Alright then. Make sure I'm always in your sight" she called as Jelani went off, ignoring her.

  A few minutes later, Bahati caught a glimpse of his father in his sight. "Dad!" Bahati cried. "Are you alright, son?" Jelani asked. "Please just get me out of here!" Bahati cried once more. "Hang on, I'll get over here in a minute or two!" Jelani replied as he shoved and pushed over some of the other Inklings to get to his son, apologizing once a while. Once Jelani had gotten close enough, he walked his son over to a segregated area to speak with him. "Dad, how are you not scared? It's loud, and crowded, and... I thought I'd lose you forever" Bahati sobbed. "Son, I got scared a lot when I was your age, but through all these years I've lived, I learned that your experiences are ultimately what mold you" Jelani told him. "But I still don't understand how you made it through without crying or panicking" Bahati sobbed once more. "I won't deny that I kept calm, but I was still scared. Scared that I would never see you again, scared that you'd be lost in the world and left to fend for yourself at such a young age. As long as I live, I don't want to leave you because you'll always be my son" Jelani confessed. "Would you ever leave me?" Bahati asked. "I don't want to, but someday I will have to" Jelani told him. "When? If you do, will you come back and when?" Bahati asked again. "You'll understand when you're older, son" Jelani murmured. "In the meantime, I need to have a talk with you, your mother, and your sister. Let's go" he beckoned as his son followed him.
