NOPE.
IT'S NOT ALL BOUT JACK AND ROSE. UwU
You're right. :>
I like her not because of the movie, I like her because of her history. ((I feel bad that the people died and stuff))
I love the movie, and it's my favorite movie of all time. But it doesn't mean I think it's all about Jack & Rose though

There are other Titanic movies besides the 1997 version released by Paramount and 20th Century Fox. The most factually accurate movie version is the 1958 film "A Night To Remember" based on the 1955 book by Walter Lord. Everything in the film is as factually accurate as possible, and no fictional characters were inserted.

I feel like the 1997 movie kept the story alive. If it hadn't been for the movie I probably wouldn't even know anything about the real ship. I feel like it is going to keep the story alive for generations to come, i know I'm going to show my own children someday. If I hadn't seen that movie I wouldn't even remember talking about it in third grade. Sometimes movies are the best way to keep stories from the past alive for others. The people that died that night deserve to be remembered and I think the movie serves as a reminder that nothing is unsinkable. It is helping keep the story around and keeping interest in it.

I agree. I am fed up of whenever I talk about the actual ship people assume I am talking about the movie. I have seen people claim that "Rose and Jack existed" and the existence of the necklace. I am fed up of searching for "RMS Titanic" and finding pictures of Rose and Jack. What about those people who did exist on the Titanic? They're treated in the film as "Background Characters" and several of them wasn't even mentioned by name at all unless you read a history book on the Titanic (The only officers who were acknowledged in the film were Murdoch and Moody. The others weren't even mentioned at all, despite the fact in real life the majority of them played a role in uncovering the lifebats and evacuating the passengers. The only officer who didn't play a part in the evacuation was Third Officer Pitman, and that was because he was put in charge of the first lifeboat. The officers who uncovered the lifeboats were Wilde, Murdoch, Lightoller, Lowe and Moody, with Captain Smith instructing and Boxhall in charge of the distress rockets. So they were visible during the sinking) The First Class characters were acknowledged several times, but they were relegated to background characters to make way for Jack, Rose, Ruth DeWitt Buckater, Cal Hockley and Spicer Lovejoy. There are more to the Titanic than Rose and Jack's love story. An aide to the U.S President, a journalist, a silent film actress, businessmen, a schoolteacher and a recently married tennis star was some of the passengers aboard the Titanic.

It is a film. And history. Without that movie it wouldn't feel real. We're a see-it-to-believe-it world. Seeing adds emotion.

I really agree with you. It's a shame how people nowadays think it's all about Jack & Rose, about the 1997 film or something like that. It was a real ship, and over 1500 souls were lost on that particular night. Fuck that Hollywood shit. May those souls rest in peace, Thomas Andrews also, who really lost everything on that night.

I know. It might be possible to make a Titanic film for kids, but good god, Mondo's version was so wrong on so many levels. At least the other bad Titanic film (infamous for having a rapping dog), while it was stupid, had the sense to imply people died. What's next, a shitty disrespectful film based on 9/11 where giant birds save everyone from falling to their deaths?

You read my mind when it comes to that. RMS Titanic and James Cameroon's Titanic are not the same thing and the latter is all I ever hear. People know Titanic as a film, not as the great ocean liner she was. It's maddening!

My heavens! SOMEONE FEELS THE SAME WAY I DO!! Titanic is NOT just a film! I hate that when I tell folks I love Titanic and they look at me and say 'Oh yeah, that was a great movie'. NO, NO, NO!!!! There is more to it than that. Far, far more! Thank you for making this clear. Nothing raises my ire more than having people think The Queen of the Ocean was nothing more than an 'actress' in a 1997 film. She was real. She is real. LET US NOT FORGET HER!! I shall be steadfast to this till the end, just I like I want to make sure people remember her sister, Olympic. Believe it or not, the 'Olympics' are not just a sport, but the name of a forgotten ship as well!

The problem is that with most of Generation Y (which pretty much dominates the 'net) and their overall misunderstanding of the fact that life existed before 1990 and the fact that want to mock James Cameron is the reason why this issue pops up even in the first place... We "get it"; the film is a big ass cliche storm full of romance and is only good because of the whole "draw me like one of your French ladies" thing... We also realize you're an immature brat as well...
The actual ship sinking was in fact, a major tragedy because it could have been prevented on several different levels. Granted, nobody truly understood the danger of icebergs at the turn of the century, but the piss-poor safety standards of the time is a big reason why so many lives were lost. You also have to realize that during the Victorian era, industrial standards were very loose and poorly constructed ships did come off the lines... Not to mention that the creator of the ship didn't think to build the flood chambers to be high enough to help hold in the water that would come in if the ship did happen to get in dire situations... Of course, there are many investigations going on to how exactly the ship sank, but the economical, historical, and naval impact from the sinking of the Titanic is the reason why modern cruise liners have to be monitored and maintained properly, as well as to not treat the third class passengers of various transit options like crap...
Those are my two cents on the whole issue, anyway... I just can't really get how people would be this stupid about the Titanic.

Titanic is the best movie ever made, that's what I think. and the actual accident... it's so creepy and tragic. but it is important that this accident happened, because it tought a great lesson that there must be lifeboats for each passenger, and the ships must be built so they are stronger and easier to pilot. who knows if it would have been tought by a bigger accident if titanic would have survived.

James Cameron should've just made the movie about one of the survivors instead of fictional characters.
The romance overall took away from the tragedy. I was a teen when this came to theaters.
All I heard from everyone at school was "jack and rose". Not how tragically horrible it was that all those people died.
I didn't watch Decaprio movies for years.
It could've also just been one big disaster movie instead if Cameron didn't know what direction to take it.
And I feel sorry that the Nostalgia Critic had to watch The Legend of Titanic.
Ugh that movie was worse. It completely took the tragedy away and nobody died.
I wish I didn't know a movie like THAT existed. It got the Disney ending.

Also, lets not forget the shameful and incredibly insulting animated movie about the evil whaling scheme, the shark gang, and the dogfaced octopus being responsible for the ships sinking, and having it turn out that no one died at the end.
That was the most insulting thing I've seen to this disaster!

excatly...at my school a few months ago we were learning about immigration and how the Titanic connected with it, but many students in my class were asking questions that had to do with the movie. Retarded is a good word for them. Learn about history for once people.
I've known the Titanic for so long...since I was 4 years old. I have at least 27 books on The Ship Of Dreams, half of them fictional and the other half information and facts about Her.
I still remember for Her 100th Anniversary, I made a giant poster with a drawing of the Titanic. It took at least a good 3 hours to draw/paint.
I love the films based on the Titanic Herself, although "Titanic" misleads people for it being JUST a movie. It's not, it's a TRUE EVENT. I do wish that people would just realize that.
Which reminds me, the Titanic Exhibit that I went to awhile ago was awesome. Has anyone else been to the exhibit?

Yes, I have. Thank you for the wonderful point on the film also. Titanic is not just about 'Jack and Rose'. Titanic was as real as we are standing here. Personally, my favorite scenes in Cameron's TITANIC were the scenes of the Majestic Lady herself, and I am not talking about Rose. If I bought prints from the film, they would all be of the ship. (By the way, if you are interested in reading about her twin sister, RMS Olympic, check out my works. Olympic was an important ship too, but if you mention her name, all you get are flat looks.) Congratulations for making the grand point though. I truly appreciate all people who think the same.

I love the movie Titanic but I know that it was a real ship where a lot of people died sadly, I know there was no Jack/Rose though they did find a passenger with the name 'Jack D' but it doesn't mean Jack Dawson it was a different person I think. The movie was very good but I know the ship was real...but it's like some people EXPECT others to know Titanic was a real ship and people really shouldn't expect them to know that, nobody knows everything and they get all mad/defensive if someone said 'I didn't know Titanic was a real ship' :shrugs:

I think it's a thing you get to know when you're at most 10. And after you turn, I don't know, 13, I'd call it an ignorance. It's like watching some Doctor Who episodes assuming Winston Churchill was fictional. This is just a part of world's history, not a specialist knowledge.
