in 1890, the MVCR ordered 20 mastodon type locomotives, after the 1902 wreck that turned Connie into a cyborg, 782 was recovered and rebuilt into this new form, with the valve gear moved to the outside, a belpaire firebox and the streamlined nosecone among other changes.Eventually the rest of the locomotives were rebuilt into this form.
