Description
After achieving success in her enterance exam to Princess Celestia's School for Gifted Unicorns and receiving the part of the personal student of the princess herself, Twilight Sparkle was given another task she never thought she could ever accomplish.

She was given a baby dragon.

Unsure of what to do with the newborn baby dragon upon hatching, the hatchling was momentarily cared for by Celestia herself, in hopes that her student may bond with the baby dragon and perhaps learn a lot more than she would ever be able to teach the young unicorn. Twilight would be tasked to watch over and care for the hatchling from time to time, much to the filly's reluctance and horror. She would entertain it, spoon-feed it and even bathe it occasionally. This made her unhappy, believing that her time is priceless and should be spent doing things that are more worthwhile than 'babysitting' a noisy, unintelligent reptile. To her, it was slowing her down from all the progress she could've made in studying. After a while, she would constantly find ways to weasel her way out of spending time with the baby dragon.

Once night, after a long day of studying, the unicorn got her bed ready for the night - only to discover a small creature hiding underneath her pillows. She was quick to turn on the light, revealing the small dragon cowering as it hid. Upon setting its eyes on Twilight, it was extremely overjoyed to see her; this displayed by it immediately leaping into her arms, begging for comfort. It didn't matter how it got there at the time. It missed her, that's what matters.

Heart softened by witnessing the fear in the dragon's eyes and realizing how it was alone in a whole new world, Twilight took it upon herself to make it feel safe. It didn't take her long to realize how it found comfort in the sound of her heartbeat and the feeling of her stomach expanding and deflating as she breathed. Twilight also discovered how stroking its spikes managed to pull out some happy, contented giggles from it. For a while, she talked to it, telling stories about Equestria's history and safety tips in Chemistry.

It didn't dawn on her how she enjoyed the time she made for the baby dragon she had so unexpectedly assisted in giving life to.

Maybe it wouldn't be so bad to spare some time from her days for this little spiked one. It would be a lot to adapt to, but maybe it's a good kind of adapt.

Maybe, a little change wasn't so bad.

The other day I placed my 1 year old niece on my stomach when she got really upset over something and it calmed her down. She lay there for a while and dozed off for a bit until her mom came along. I can't imagine how that could be comfortable for her but it was a nice feeling.

And then I thought of filly Twi and baby Spike.

And then this happend.

I don't care if it's canonically accurate or not, it's canon in my head.
