Description 78 was my first 9 OC, and as such I think it's high time she got some art! I came up with her back in...gosh, July? August? And I must say, she's developed a great deal over the months in the RP she's a part of. I'm quite pleased with her overall and I really think she's one of the better OCs I've created.

The sketches in the background are several conceptual drawings I jotted down before coming up with her final design.

---

Name - 78
Age - 4 years old
Fabric - A baby blanket for her body and an old nightgown for her dress
Height - 78 is rather on the short side of things (probably about 6's height)
Voice Actor - Gwendolyn Lau (voice of Sheska in Fullmetal Alchemist)
Theme Song - Never Far Behind by Aly & AJ (fits her supportive nature ^^)
Anomolies - At one point in her life, 78 was eyeless. While this has since been repaired, she was left with two noticible seams on either side of her head from the operation involved in replacing them.
Personality - Friendly to a fault, good-natured, and loyal, 78 has a rather maternal spirit towards her comrades, taking it upon herself to support them in times of need and rebuke them in times of bad behavior. 78 also has a huge girly side (she is not a tomboy by ANY means ), and can become very excited and giddy when it shows itself.
However, bright and cheery as she can be when things are going well, 78 is prone to stressing too much when things are going poorly. She can also be quite pessimistic and dour. Good as she is at solving other's problems, she doesn't handle her own very calmly at all.
History - When 78 was first created, she was alone and frightened. Her solution to the overwhelming sense of helplessness she felt in this strange, twisted world was to rely on her most basic instincts, without compassion. This part of her life is something she regrets to this day.
After being injured in an attack, 78 was fostered by another, more experienced stitch-punk who called herself Petal. Petal kept 78 safe in a sanctuary filled with fake flowers, promising her one day they would fill the world with real flowers together. Over time, the two fell in love, though Petal often kept a dominant role over 78 and was, at times, rather controlling (78 grew to be quite timid as a result).
Petal was taken from 78 in an attack by several CSMs who discovered their sanctuary. This attack left 78 blinded and helpless, her optics destroyed by a fell blow to her face. The last sight she beheld was Petal being carried away. Upon awakening, the only remnant of her lover she could find was an old fake flower Petal carried around for luck. From that day, 78 vowed she would never open her eyes again to a world so terrible and cruel.
She was, however, later convinced to amend this, and now has regained her vision. Spending time with a loving, caring community has helped 78 immensely to gain her confidence, and she has adopted the role of something of a therapist in the group, addressing others about their problems and helping them sort through them.

Oh dear, I feel like such a rip-off artist now! I tend to draw my friends' OCs more than mine, it seems.

But I intend to amend that!

^^ Thank you.

I know 78's going to hate this, but I absolutely want to hug her. The coloring makes her look so huggably soft~!

-ahem- But I really like the contrast between the sketchy background characters and concepts then the clean, colored finished design. A beautiful work indeed!

Why would 78 hate a hug? She loves hugs! And that snuggly softness is what I was aiming for: she is, after all, made of a baby blanket. Cuddly to the MAX!

Thanks very much, Derf, that contrast is what I was aiming for. ^^

Between you and me, the top left was my VERY first attempt at a stitch-punk You don't even wanna know what my first sketch of 1 looked like... *shudders*

....oh right, it's 1 that hates hugs. With all that itchy burlap and clawing fingers, yeah, anti-cuddly right there! -hugs 78- Aw~!

....some sick part of me does want to see that first attempt at 1. I think there's a progress meme out there that might be a fun project, to see how your style has come along! If you feel like it.

On a completely random note, your 'an apple a day keeps the doctor away' sketch I put as my webcam made six snort as well.
