so I've never adopted a character before, so I might've overdone it oops

ANYWAYS. Drew this for 's draw to adopt thinger . As soon as I saw the character, I was very taken by her unique design and colors -- particularly her tattoos. They got me wondering. What could they represent? Do they have some sort of cultural significance?

My ideas wound up kind've snowballing into this whole story arc. I think she might end up as an antagonist on Shaky Shears' blog. The following contains a bit've personal headcanon, so I hope it makes sense to anybody but me.

Name - Burnadette
Species - Spurtan earth pony
Voice Actor - Laura Bailey (Lust from Fullmetal Alchemist)
Anomalies - Her body is covered in strange tattoos that allow her to use magic. Also, she has no cutie mark.
Abilities - Burnadette's tattoos can be manipulated at will, and her cigarette is imbued with dark magic.
Likes - Wine, flying, candles, night time, and extravagant dresses
Dislikes - Idle conversation and excessive talking, being touched too much, staring, rain, and the princesses of Equestria
Personality - Sharp focus and sheer determination to achieve her goals find a lethal combination in Burnadette. The ends always justify the means, and she will tear through whatever obstacles stand in her way with no mercy. Any alliances she makes are utilitistic in nature; as soon as they cease benefiting her, she will sever them and most likely dispose of the former ally as well. No one can know too much about her or her goal, or they are a threat. She is not above using mental and physical torture to get the information she wants, but has no enjoyment for pain and mostly just finds all the shrieking and crying and begging annoying.

Her social skills are limited as she constantly lives on the fringes of society, and she has little understanding of the emotions or social cues from others.

History - The island of Spurta was founded by a pony that had brought such shame upon their family, they were exiled from their homeland, never to return. They wished to create a society not dictated by the whims of the greater beings, the spirits, the alicorns, and the great ones that watch over the world, but shaped by their own hooves using whatever means necessary to defy the cosmic plan that had been laid out for them. As such, they do not draw upon the same magic as the unicorns of Equestria which is based on love, harmony, and unity, but a much more destructive, chaotic sort that is used solely for battle.

They were never ruled over by a caring and loving leader, but by a despot who would seize power by force. Their founder's son, who came to be known as the great and terrible King Sombra, ruled over their lands for thousands of years before setting out to conquer the Crystal Empire, which was the heart of the world of light which had cast out his mother in disgrace.

The land he left behind was in shambles, constantly struggling to maintain some sort of power structure with families rising and falling from grace over the centuries. Every creature who lives in Spurta is armed with some form of magic, as living without it marks you as weak and unworthy, and worse, easy prey. Burnadette's family, being of Earth pony lineage, uses specialized tattoos that are bestowed upon their children once they come of age (because of this practice and how their magic is harnessed, Cutie Marks ceased appearing on their flanks over time).

Her family was the ruling class for the last hundred years before they were usurped from power and forced into exile from the capitol city. Burnadette, being the eldest daughter, swore to her dying father that she would reclaim the family's honor and take back their seat of power before setting off to the mysterious land where Sombra had sought his fortune thousands of years before. She seeks the mystical Alicorn Amulet, a powerful gem infused with magic rivaling that of the god-like princesses who ruled Equestria that had once belonged to Sombra before it was lost to time.
