I really want to work more on my second gen/headcanonverse/whatever it is I'll be calling it, so! I figured the best way to start was developing the lead's backstory a bit further.

Gliese's life didn't start on the happiest note: Celestia was very young when he was born, having only recently taken the throne and finding herself beguiled into something of a weird rivalry/attraction with an especially dangerous trickster spirit named Discord.

Celestia had to give birth to the child in secret, out in the woods away from prying eyes, rightfully fearing his parentage would be obvious. She hoped, perhaps naively, Discord might appear in the way he always seemed to, so that she might not feel so alone at such a low point in her life. Sadly, Discord just wasn't ready. Ready for friendship, for a real relationship, for fatherhood, for any part of what she desperately longed for with him. So she was left alone that night, soothing her infant son to sleep and realizing in a rush of despair that she would have to face the kingdom with this by herself.

I listened to this cover of 'Deep in the Dark' a lot while coloring this, and I think it fits the tone I was going for pretty well.
