Just a little something I did over Christmas Vacation.

hehe I've learned that sewing can be quite a relaxing and stress relaxing activity. Back in the day I used to make Pokemon out of socks and felt, my goal had been "gotta MAKE em all". I never did reach that goal, but I still look back at some of my older designs and feel a sense of joy.

This is certainly not a flawless piece of work by ANY means. I did not sew this to prove "HEY I kick ARSE at making plushies!" No. Just the opposite in fact.

(So don't feel it necesarry to really criticize it's craftsmanship- this is my FIRST TRY)

I had been very VERY depressed since last year. I was overwhelmed and full of self-doubt. I felt like nothing I could was useful or good- or AS good as anyone else.
But back in the day I didn't care if my Pokemon looked good. They made me happy, that was all that counted.
And so, making this doll reminded me how GOOD it felt to just sew something for myself.

Unlike my drawings, I had relatively no pressure to make this doll look GOOD. While i did happilly gaze at how creative some other artists online are, I did not scrutinize my imperfections or study other people's TECHNIQUES at making the BEST doll ever- No. I made it for me. And he's perfect for me. ^^

THE PIECE ITSELF:
I'm sure it's no surprise I have recently fallen hardcore for the Naruto character Kabuto- not just because he's evil or cool looking, but because after writing so much I feel I really understand his character and enjoy how morbid and cute, morose and yet happy I can bend his emotions to.

I cosplayed him last year and the bandage wrap around his waist is actually a small piece of the fabric i used for my costume. I had wanted the rest to be as well- but alas i was unable to find the other purple fabric in time

I was relatively surprised how easy it was seeing it was my first time. It took 5 hours topps. And once i got sewing i just couldn't stop.

I had a Full metal alchemist mini keychain plush I studied to check where to sew seems in. It was from that idea I figured out how to make the poneytail. and Round out the head.

It always made me a little perturbed how hard it was to make dolls actually ROUND- so I at first made a gap between the top of the forehead and the backpiece so that the third fabric would make up the hairline- but halfway through sewing when i was unhappy with it- i flipped it over and behold! The hairline became the chinline instead and i stuffed the hell out of it with cotton.

When actually sewing, I didn't even attempt to change the fabric thread or hide the stitching- i flipped his head inside out halfway through sewing, and knew how to hide knots and that was the only trick i really used.

the body was just the size of the head only slightly longer which i folded over- I put a small colored pencil where the arms would be so i could make sure not to sew over it

again its funny i hardly CUT any of these felt pieces, i just kept finding scraps back out of my feltbox and was like "ooo! i know what this could be used for..."

the arms were not even stuffed with cotton, i merely rolled up felt fabric and made him a sleeve

i sewed legs, than the arms and the hair last.

the glasses... i reaized I had no idea what i wanted Kabuto's face to look like- what expression to give or how much to superdeform his eyes, so I just figured I'd start with the glasses. The photo's might not show it, but they are actually plastice i sewed to his head- I took the cover of a marker case (like those cheap roseart ones you get with 24 markers? you know em...) and cut out the frames i drew with a marker

aaaand that was about it

So sorry for the rest of you who were probably expectng some more. I'll have more art along the way shortly- I just figured I would show you the fruits of my labor and I know a chosen few had asked to see my plushy in person- well there ya go!

I put my hand in the photo's to gibve you a scale of how tiny it is.

MORE?: hehe I had so much fun with this I think i shall make many more (i have the strangest urge to make Kimimaro for some reason?) alas right now I am out of cotton, but perhaps another time you shall see some more handywork.
