Description Updated with watermark, 02-08-09.

These are the "afterlife" of the grape hyacinth flowers that I posted earlier this spring. Beautiful example of life after death, imho. The lighting in this shot is meant to symbolize the passing of the flower into its next, darker phase.

Notice, as well, the cross formation in the focus. I did not attempt to capture this on purpose - it's only now, after this image has been posted for a day or so, that I've actually noticed this. I thought it was kind of cool to consider the subliminal-ness of what may have also prompted my thoughts and original title for this deviation, in what I had been raised to see as "afterlife," whether I believe or agree with it or not (I'm not voicing an opinion here, either way). It's similar to how advertising may use subliminal messaging to affect our choices, beliefs, and opinions in our daily lives.

Again, an item from ~DorieJean s garden.

Shot using Pentax K110D, with UV filters on 70-300mm lens, at +1.0 EV.

Post work:
-slight vignetting
-border and watermark

Full view is better, I'm sure.

Great shot, the flowers stand out so well against that darker background. I love it

Thank you - I totally know what you mean. It's so funny how things are seen so much differently through the lens. Looking straight on at the scene, it didn't look this way. But somehow, in the process of framing the shot, shadows came about, etc., and it just turned out.

Yeah, it worked really well. It's great when something like that happens although the reverse isn't so good (when a shot looks great, then fails).

The shot also helps me see/feel the crunchiness of the flower's petals - just as they are in person. Good one - my friend!

I know! It was really cool that it left this...skeleton of its former self. I've never really noticed a flower that did that.
