Description Another frog for you - this time, a bitty baby one! This guy couldn't have been more than a couple of days old, as his back feet had not fully developed and he still had the snub of his little tadpole tail. Awesome-ness!

Post work:
-crop to square
-slight vignetting
-watermark

Full view is better, I'm sure.

Well, the bad news is that Diablomako is probably right about the little guy not developing normal feet. The good news is that he appears to be a toad, which means he may do just fine with those stumpy feet, because they aren't as dependent on their feet as frogs. And it's a nice shot

Wow - what a relief. I have wondered about him ever since I got Diablomako's comment. Not so much wondered as felt concern and sent him as many good vibes as possible. I mean, it would suck to be deformed in nature. Truly. Of course, that's the way of it, eh? I mean...the circle of life. It sucks to be deformed as a human, but I don't think nearly as bad as in nature because in nature, if you're deformed in your ability to fight or escape, you're going to be dinner. I'm glad to hear that his species is a plus for him in this case.

You got that right. You don't even want to know the odds of a tadpole making it to maturity. And it's possible that little guy's toes were eaten by one of his brothers. But, he made it past on major hurdle, so he's clearly a survivor.

I've never eaten a frog. People here do, but they get large toads from the river. Do you know any frog that tastes good?

I'm just joking! I think in my country still chicken are available so I don't need to taste that!
I'm just curious to know.

Well, here, anyone who has eaten frog has said that it tasted like chicken, so I'll just stick with the chicken.

Oh what a cute little guy. What a shame about his feet. That actually is more then likely a deformity. The back feet and legs are the first thing to develop on the tadpoles so if his where not developed that is probably how they are gonna stay unfortunately.

PaganFireSnake In reply to catacosmosis-xo [2008-09-05 18:19:09 +0000 UTC]

Unfortunately yes. But that is part of nature. Part of her way of controlling the numbers of any type of animal. I have raised many tadpoles into frogletts and even with doing everything right there are still a few that end up with issues like this poor guy. Some of these leg problems are actually caused by a parasite that attacks the frog while it is still a tadpole. It goes right for the legs on purpose b/c in order if it to continue it's life cycle the frog must be eaten by a bird. Makes the frog an easier target.
