When I was small in England in the 40's and 50's, horses like this were used to pull the milk man's and the coal man's cart. I loved them.
Modern life rushes by us.

As soon as I saw this, I knew it was Melbourne.
Thanks for capturing my hometown so well

I do love the contrast with the anachronism too. The horse still, (of the past) and the tram (of the present, technology) moving by insanely fast. Shows the difference of old vs new, and captures how alot of people view the world and how life is just going way too fast.

Haha yeah I love your city mate... And I have a theory it's got more kiwis than aussies!

It's funny you mention about the stillness vs motion... check out the other shot of the series [link]

There are many carriage horses in Chicago, too. I always enjoy seeing them, and I can't help but check out their general health as I pass by - weight, hooves, etc...It's a habit. :/ But taking the time to talk to the carriage drivers about their animals, most of them really care about their animals and are always happy to answer questions about them.

I dig this photo. I love how nonplussed the horses are about it all. And who doesn't love Draft and Draft crosses?

I agree... people are so keen to jump on the bandwagons about issues without really trying to understand it. Thanks!

Those poor horses...they're probably scared by that fast moving bus.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

HeavyMetalFaerie In reply to SimbaCUB92 [2010-11-23 05:20:24 +0000 UTC]

No, most city carriage horses are trained to be bomb-proof. They're about as startled by a bus as you are by a piece of lint you found in your pocket. Unless of course, you have a lint phobia.

That's pretty much perfect! I got the concept before reading the description. It's like when older folks watch the younger generation run around. Their way of life has come and passed and they are getting passed in the process. Perfect.
