Description The ship drifts silently into the harbour
carrying
memories of you
so I sank her, thinking
it would make me forget

Instead
she dyes the ocean vintage
into
the colour of you

Mt. Maunganui,
Bay of Plenty
New Zealand

*Production note: I love taking water photos in twilight, even though scrambling over slippery rocks, carrying camera in one hand and tripod in the other in fading light can be a bit dodgy. What's even dodgier is scrambling over slippery rocks in the dark on the way back.

mystical

I love the evening light as the sun sets,
the light changes to a soft orangey glow

This is just beautiful! I feel like you are really coming into your own with some of the more recent photos I've taken a look at. There's confidence even while trying out new techniques. It's quite a joy to watch your site develop.

(and thank god people like you brave the dodgey adventures so the rest of us can enjoy what we otherwise would never get to see)

cool, have u been here before? It's even more beautiful in real life

Especially without all the orcs...

I haven't been in NZ and I don't think it could be possible, because it is to expensive, but maybe one day my sister is also in love with New Zeland so maybe one day we will come to visit together

Even orcs are not a problem

yeah it's not exactly a three hour drive away... one day when u become a famous photographer and travel the world for exhibitions

If u do ever come this way give me a shout I've been told by many random foreigners I've befriended that I'm a great tour guide

beautiful-ghost [2007-05-07 01:18:21 +0000 UTC]

Wow, the colours seem really ancient/middle-ages? I kinda wish the ships weren't there, it would have completed the effect for me, but they're also nice in their own way. I am definitely going out to take pictures of the water, I didn't know long exposures on waves did that, though now that I think about it, I suppose it makes sense XD

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

CatchMe-22 In reply to beautiful-ghost [2007-05-07 11:34:01 +0000 UTC]

I've decided you're right, the ships are a distraction so I have removed it in PS... thanks for the suggestion

and u should definitely try it sometime.... long exposures are so much fun

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

beautiful-ghost In reply to CatchMe-22 [2007-05-08 03:02:27 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, it definitely finishes the effect off for me - I like it much better now.

XDD I know!! I have some amazing pictures from playing around with that, it's odd how some things you can never reproduce, though.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

CatchMe-22 In reply to beautiful-ghost [2007-05-08 08:32:46 +0000 UTC]

well, no two waves are ever the same right... that's the beauty of photography... the moment can never be reproduced.

Well, unless u press Ctrl + C.

lol

I thought I knew those rocks

I go there all the time, I love watching the waves crash.

I really like this, you did a good job scrambling across the rocks!

Awesome place huh I loved it... I was kinda gutted I didn't go there to take pics during the big storm... but then again it's probably not very good for the camera

dareme [2007-05-05 15:36:02 +0000 UTC]

That's an amazing shot. I absolutely love the dreamy feeling in it, and the poem you wrote is ... breathtaking.

There is one little thing that disturbs me, the little white thing on the left, pretty much on the horizon ... what the heck is that? .... I think it'd be worth removing, cos it really focusses my attention on that one tiny, stupid thing, making it difficult to see the beauty of the shot without distraction.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

CatchMe-22 In reply to dareme [2007-05-06 12:50:38 +0000 UTC]

well spotted dear... ur the first one! that white thing is actually a ship! I thought about editing it out but at the end decided to leave it there cos it's kinda appropriate and provides symmetry with the islands on the horizon on the right.

Now knowing it's a ship, do u still think I should edit it out? I always value ur critique highly and will seriously consider it if u think it will work better

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

dareme In reply to CatchMe-22 [2007-05-07 07:17:35 +0000 UTC]

I get the thing with the counter-balance to the rock. But I'd still remove it, even knowing it's a ship - or, alternatively, not remove it, but darken/dullen the colourtone of it, so it blends into the image more smoothely. The rocks on the right aren't so eyecatching, and that's because their colour-scheme isn't so "unnatural" as the ship's.

CatchMe-22 In reply to dareme [2007-05-07 11:35:00 +0000 UTC]

I have thought long and hard about it and I've decided you are indeed correct as always... I have edited the ship out of the shot and it looks much better this way

dareme In reply to CatchMe-22 [2007-05-07 12:52:41 +0000 UTC]

Your trust honours me.

And I quite agree, I like it MUCH more this way ... just removing that little thing, for me, made all the difference.
