I redesigned him a little and completely rewriting his backstory. He is now raised by Celestia so he’s a prince and now he looks more obviously half dragon.

Here’s his backstory. I should honestly probably do a separate thing thing explaining more about him but this is what I’ve got so far.

Sweets has no idea what he wants to do with his life. He likes writing but has never finished writing a book. Despite having the prince title it’s really only in name as Celestia has chosen Twilight as her heir and while Sweets never wanted that power she still harbors a hint of jealousy at not even being considered. They feel lost and aimless, watching their friends seemingly already knowing what to do with their lives. It’s not all bad through, Twilight and friends makes sure of that. Though there’s something his mother isn’t telling him about and Aunt Luna seems uncomfortable around him. She has this sad look on her face everytime he’s in the room and can’t look him in the eyes.

Maybe she wanted kids and wasn’t able to do? Oh well, it’s probably nothing anyway. At least he’s got Twilight and her friends, which are now also his friends as well, his other friends Blueblood and Fancy Pants, their book club with Twilight, and sometimes rainbow Dash, and his mom of course. Surely nothing could ruin this? There is one thing that it keeps thinking about. What the buck was Queen Chrysalis talking about? What was she hinting at? Another alicorn princess couldn’t have created him, Cadance wasn’t even born and Luna wouldn’t have created him. It just wouldn’t have made sense for her to do that. He knows it was somepony besides Celestia but it was probably just a really powerful normal unicorn. Well at least Ponyville is pretty nice. (Except for the fact his ex, Filthy Rich lives there.)

Surprise surprise it was Luna that created him or should I say Nightmare Moon. Anyway he was by an extremely powerful insurance policy in case something happened to her. The heir to her legacy as it were, a means to an end. If she got banished or even worse, killed, he would take over in her stead. A perfect combination of her alicorn pony magic, dragon, and changeling all rolled into one and in the perfect neat package of a dragon egg. Of course when she got banished to the moon Sweets egg was discovered by Celestia and Sweets immediately hatched afterwards. Celestia contemplated destroying him with her magic but seeing those cute eyes and chubby face she couldn’t do it. So she raised him as her own. She planned to tell him he was Luna child, she really did! But as the years went by and then centuries, she just bring herself to. That knowledge would shatter his whole world.

Three things that Sweets is extremely good at, teleporting, creating portals, and potion making. He can’t fly very well without pushing his body and magic (which he often does.), due to his stunted wings so sometimes he teleports or creates portals to get to far away places. He also loves flying into rain storms, it’s probably one of the few risky things he does. He also naps a lot but is aways a little tired. When he sleeps he ends up the dream scape and when he was a foal he didn’t tell anypony, especially Celestia because he was scared it was bad and he would get in trouble. Now occasionally Luna has him fill in for her, though that’s a once in a blue moon thing.

Most didn’t know Celestia had a son except scholars, who read the ancient scrolls and learned of his existence, and the castle guards. For awhile he stayed out of sight, uninterested in being in the public eye. When Luna reappeared he decided to reintroduce himself to the public. he still hides his wings in public, never wears his crown, and asks every creature to just call him Sweets. When he was foal his magic was extremely powerful and destructive and he was very colicky. Ruling a nation and raising a child at the same time was extremely difficult, especially for Celestia who had never taken care of foals. Due to this pressure Celestia did something that she still deeply deeply regrets.

She used a spell Starswirl was still experimenting with, a magic stunting spell. It made his magic as strong as a normal unicorn until he gains mastery over it. As he learns, the spell begins to slowly reverse. Unknown to both Celestia and Starswirl, the spell unfortunately had permanent physical effects. Stunted wings and height. While Sweets is taller and bigger than the average pony he will never reach full alicorn height. Starswirl had tried to warn Celestia that the spell could have side effects. Starswirl decided to mentor Sweets himself.
