L'anziana signora, seduta sulla
sedia di fronte al tavolo di legno,
continuava a guardare l'uomo
sospettosa, finchè alla fine
cedette: <primo bivio prendi la strada a
destra e da lì è solo in salita,
fino alla cima. Non ci sono
scorciatoie nè facili sentieri,
sarà un cammino lungo e faticoso.
Arrivato in cima aspetta le prime
stelle della notte; lei starà lì a
dormire, ma quando si sveglierà
non rivolgerle la parola, per
nessun motivo al mondo giovanot-
to!>>. L'uomo, fuori di sè dalla
gioia, abbracciò la signora sebbene
ci fosse un tavolo tra di loro e, dopo
aver ringraziato molte volte, uscì
dalla piccola casa. Il cielo era
coperto di nuvole; l'uomo sperava che
la cima della montagna fosse più alta
del tappeto bianco in cielo, così da
poterla vedere." English:

<< I want to see her! Please tell
me which path do I've to take to
reach the top!>> The old lady, sit-
ting on the chair in front of the
wooden table, kept looking sospicious
the man in front of her, until at the end
she relented: <at the first crossroad take the path on
the right and after that it's just on uphill,
to the top. There're no shortcuts neither
easy path, it'll be a long and hard
walking. Once you'll reach the top,
wait for the first stars of the night;
she'll be there, sleeping, but when
she'll be awake don't talk to her
for not reason at all, lad!>>.
The man, beside himself with joy,
hugged the lady even though there
were a table between them and,
after he thanked several times, he
went out of the little house.
The sky was covered by clouds;
the man hoped that the top of the
mountain was higher than the
white carpet in the sky, so he could
see her."
