Cover art for the Chantaro bootleg remix of Vitas' "7th Element". The track is releasing on Tradrec rather soon and will be free so keep an eye out for that if you are interested!

Spent a lot of time on this one playing around with different formats and variations. I really wanted a low key photo shoot look for Vitas himself in this cover but sadly I did not have the money to book a flight to Russia and meet the guy himself and schedule the event. Luckily I am rather good at 3D modelling so in the end I made a copy of his entire head as well as the iconic helmet from his live performances back in 2002.

Originally I decided to take some online image resources of him from different events and merge them together in a clean photo manipulation and get somewhat close to what I had in mind from the start. Sadly, there are barely any images of him available online that have any sort of good quality. In the end I was off merging parts of his face and completely reconstructing him from simple images I could find and it was a real pain to do. At the same time I was working at a high resolution of 2048px with the average online image barely being 600px meaning I had to find parts from other more high resolution photos or just draw in the rest. To be honest I quite hated this part because it was a complete pain to do and never in my entire time making covers and working with resources and such have I had such a lack of anything and everything.

Dropped the entire design at that point and decided to start from scratch. Made the entire head sculpt in Blender and took it from there. Some pieces like the lights on him were also from Blender but I partially edited these to look more futuristic. I really wanted to give the image a very powerful look while still keeping it rather grounded. I made sure this was the case by using elements like dirt, branches and water splashes in the lower parts of the image and mixing it up with a space background and strong glows in the top portion. Quite liked this design in the end. At the same time I was able to get my low key lighting just the way I wanted since I technically speaking built my own studio in Blender just to get it right. As a final touch I wanted a nice golden tint in the background to give it a glamorous kind of feel. I think I do quite alright.
