Description A friend of mine showed me a picture with a dried up Chinese Lantern. She wondered if I could do that in wire knit (as usual done with a crochet hook).
This is my third version (the first two were in silver tone wire and smaller than this one) based on this picture from Wikipedia [link]
I'm pretty much obsessed with getting this right and this won't be my last one. The "fruit" is a red agate bead. It's about 4 cm not counting the stem, a bit bulky for a pendant, but I think it would make a nice decoration. Time will show.

Thank you! I only know the ones you can buy in the shops, I didn't even know that they become "netted" like this when dried up. I can already see myself needing more red beads

They are super pretty. They grow on little vines.

I'll stick with the faux variety. Plants tend to die when I say hello to them :-S
I'm at three now [link]

An awesome idea.

I can't take credit for the idea itself. A friend of mine posted a picture of a real one because at first she thought it was wire knit which made her think of me
I will take credit for making it, though

This is a really good, solid prototype that looks great n it's own right! This is the sort of thing I'd hang up in the maple out the back as a good feature ornament

Thank you! Someone told me to add LEDs and turn it into a Christmas ornament. I'm sure inspiration (or maybe the friend who inspired me to do this in the first place) will hit me over the head eventually

Lol! Although, I do love the idea of LED lights good luck with the inspiration, I hope it doesn't hit you too hard

Gorgeous love - if this is a prototype, I can't wait to see a final product your pleased with

CatsWire In reply to Vivacia18 [2013-07-05 06:17:13 +0000 UTC]

Thank you I'm already pretty pleased, but I want to change the top a bit, and I want to make the next one a little longer because I keep underestimating how adding the thicker wires and pulling them tight changes the size. Things like that.
I need a little break from this now because that will refresh my view at it, so-to-speak.

True, there are always things that are more obvious in person than through photos. And every good project needs a little space, or you just become tired^^

Yeah, well, I made another one today ... the hook, wire and bead happened to be in the same spot as me, so we decided to give it another try
