This time around, it was the first time this part of the team went out together to a competition; Dagna, rov, Teo, Jim and Gloria herself. So, even if both brothers were at the moment kind of relaxed with both their skills and late performance, there was this quiet agreement between the two of them in trying to excel in front of their boss.
That being said, That day the heat of the day was already rising, Dagna was around Jim to help him tack Kamelot and the other riders, who none of them had an even that day, were already seated around the course to enjoy the show. Dagna was happily chatting around with her uncle and he was happy to share his own opinions with her. One thing was clear from the warm-up; Kamelot was excited and probably this was going to be in the same sense as the last events they had participated and that did give Jim a sense of relief; Lately, Kamelot seemed less hesitant about anything and way more secure in tackling any obstacle she was faced with. Minutes before their start, Jim sent Dagna back to where their own people were and she did.
She seated herself close to Gloria, who seemed to enjoy her company, in her own cold way.
What the other two adults did not know, though, it was that Dagna was able to hear their conversation. As riders passed, they commented on the performance of every single horse and looked at some of those in awe. As Jim came closer to them, the 4 of them cheered on, watching as Kamelot launched herself at the jumps with ease, and Jim seemed to read every single thought the mare had. He seemed to be calm, and Kamelot was eager to please him.
As she launched herself against the jump in front of them, Teo seemed to take on the figure of the rider; after the landing and continuous praise of the rider towards the mare, as they continued to run the course, he looked back to the brother of said rider.
The Brother seemed lost in thought as the competition continued its course.
"How are things between the two of you?" He asked in a low voice, trying to keep it low to avoid Gloria hearing them; as much as he loved his cousin and knew the brothers had a nice relationship with her, he also understood that, maybe, their own personal life wasn't to be involved with their boss.
"Honestly?" he replied without looking at him, a bit of a grim expression appearing in his otherwise usually happy demeanour "Not that good."
"He seems..." he paused, still watching Rovie and thinking how to express his concerns "he seems like he has lost quite a lot of weight."
"He has, hasn't he?" Rov replied, a tired and quite sad smile on his face as he turned around to watch Teo "I swear Teo, I have tried to understand him, to help him, but as of late everything is tense. Everything is a fight, and he seems more skittish than ever."
"Since when?"
"Honestly? Since we fought back on New's year eve. I triggered him - not that I wanted to- and even though we have spoken about it and else... He seems to pull away more and more every time."
Teo took this for a moment. He had been away for a long time and, while his time away, things seemed to be mostly ok. Now, that he has been around the siblings more once again, he caught quite quickly on the tense space between the two of them. And also on how ill Jim looked, even if he didn't seem to notice it itself. He did not need more things to worry about, but, he worried. Both brothers were good friends of his, and he absolutely adored the kid the two of them were raising. So, of course, the health state of any of them was something to worry about. And both adults seemed to be reaching soon a breaking point.
So, with a sigh, he braced himself.
"Any way I can help?"
"Honestly, Teo? I think the only ones that have been able to keep him stable are Lorelei and Charlie. He's... pulling away and won't let anyone get closer than them, and Kallie has been away for a while" he sighed, a sad expression gaining space on his face once again "Even Dagna can get closer to him than me, or Martina. How you can help? I don't know. I can't read him anymore, and it worries me that, at any moment, we will explode."
Teo nodded, understanding the extreme worry that seemed to take on Rov's mind.
And Dagna could not be more surprised to learn that rov thought she was able to do more for his uncle than himself. She looked back at Gloria, who seemed totally oblivious to the conversation the other two had a few meters away from them.
What could she do, though?
