As the next phase approached, darkness had settled in, casting a new shadow over the river. Riga had struggled with the final challenge and it's ball, her inexperience evident with it. Rov understood that she was still blossoming, and he allowed her time to figure things out. While other horses her age might have effortlessly tackled more difficult obstacles, Riga was a slow albeit steady learner. Building trust was essential for her, and Rov was determined not to break that trust any time soon. He knew she had the potential to be as remarkable as the small Cucao is.
However, as they crossed the red river, Rov noticed the weariness in Riga's movements. It had been a long day, and she had given her all in every challenge, holding her head high and doing her best for him. But she was young and inexperienced. With a sigh, he gently patted her neck and allowed her to maintain a slow, steady pace. The torch illuminated his hand while the poncho he had retrieved after the last trial provided warmth against the chilling air, but he couldn't help but wonder how cold the mare must be. Still, she pressed on bravely, as if determined to prove that she could handle anything he asked of her. However, overworking her was never his intention.
Perhaps if he had brought Cucao instead, she would have effortlessly conquered the trials. They might have even won the entire competition, given how fearless the feisty mare is. But Rov's focus remained on guiding Riga, providing her with as much experience as he could. Retiring her was a also a viable option. They had the resting point and vet check ahead, where Riga could rest through the night, and then they could assess her condition in the morning.
"It's alright, baby. Just a few hundred more meters, and then you can rest," he spoke softly to Riga as they slowly made their way through the river. Most horses would have been terrified by the swift, red waters, but she faced it valiantly. Rov couldn't help feel proud. Nevertheless, he wanted to do right by her. "I'll give you a long, relaxing massage. A nice comfy rug too, and so much food that will make you never want to move," he promised. "Hell, if I could I'd sneak you into my tent. Doubt you would like it, tho."

I am not sure I'd be able to finish the trials. While we had a long long time to finish it, life went crazy as hell on me, as you could probably notice by some erratic writting on my other pieces and my lack of energy on everything haha. So this leave opens the possibility of being able to finish the next pieces, or just rov deciding is better for the mare to retire.
