Description A black and white key for one of my classes - theme was Film Noir. FUN TIMES. ;_;

I think I actually want to try painting in black and white more often because value is something I tend to skimp on and try to overcompensate for with color, I think.

yeah that's it haha

This is great-the composition, the characters. I do love the painting style you've got!
Yeah, the femme fatele and the smoking private eye; the best traits of film noir in my opinion

Film Noir by kyvie
When I did a find on "film noir deviantart" (in www.ask.com), this was one of the pieces that came up. I really love it!

This piece fits the 1940's style of stark camera angles, chiaroscuro lighting and shadowy, high-contrast images. The characters also have a full, rounded look to them thanks to the shading and contrasts. Very nice.

Please follow through on your pledge to do more black and white work. Your talent really shines through here.

jouh, that's Noir! Nice usage of light and shadows. It's true, colours are not always the necessary and especially noir should be drawn in B/W.
I think "Mad about a Boy" of Dinah Washington suits to this one. ^^

Amazing value/contrast balance here. And the way each is looking off to either side – makes this a story in a single image. Great piece!

Very very beautiful. I love the over the shoulder pose of the guy. It makes him seam tough and distant. I also love the way the lovely lady is looking off at something outside of the picture frame. The background is simple and doesn't distract from the overall focus of the painting. Great work. I was in a show once where the style was Film Noir. Before every performance we got airbrushed with stage makeup to make us look black and white. It was tough, but amazing. The show was called "Sorry, Wrong Number" if you've ever heard of it, and I was Mrs. Stevenson. Anyway, sorry to plague up your inbox with my silly reminiscing.
Great work, again.
