On my account, I favorited a nice stamp to "Support Classic Trek". I love the original series, and I also love TNG, and a maybe couple other of the new shows.I'm sick and tired of people bashing the 2009 Star Trek movie just because they claim it doesn't follow the right plot lines, and it doesn't fulfill the requirements of the "real" Star Trek.
Well, in argument, I say: Leonard Nimoy approves of it. J.J. Abrams created it. Micheal Giacchino does the music. They got the characters down wonderfully. Plus, the entire movie is drop-dead gorgeous.
It is TOTALLY Star Trek. It's just a different, more modern take to attract the current audience, just as all the other branches of the shows did in their times.
I don't understand why people are getting all up-in-arms about this new movie being "not classic enough" or whatever.
Relax, guys!! Enjoy it for what it is!!
I mean, it's freakin' STAR TREK in the year 2009!!! In theaters!!
It's like a gift from God!!!!!

I agree. I watched the sequel last night, and it was really good. Even my friend, a former Trekkie, said Benedict Cumberbatch's portrayal as Khan was his favorite version of the character.

I agree so hard. I'm so sick of seeing new!Trek bashed to pieces. If it wasn't for new!Trek, I probably wouldn't have fell in love with the original.

The new ones are quite clearly states as an Alternate Universe plotline. Which means that no, it is not going to follow canon. Get over it!

It also annoys me how people gripe abut the USS Kelvin. That was my favorite ship design in the whole movie. people bitch about how it only has one warp nacelle or some crap like that. Who freaking cares? I thought it was an awesome looking ship! And yes, I liked the rest of the movie too.

It's supposed to be and alternate timeline. So therefore it will not follow the same plot lines!!! What would be the fun in that anyway? I loved the movie and can't wait for the two sequels.

I think that die hard fans don't see that old TOS wasn't that perfect and deep as they think it was.
But still I consider the new trek movie as a good summer blockbuster. Is it that bad? Nope.

I haven't watched the old Star Trek, but I do agree that the movie has to be accepted for what it is. I thought it was pretty good.
