Description
A mythical Welsh reptile. These winged surpants are often described as being brightly coloured with large glistening wings and distinctive markings. They have long snake-like bodies covered with tough scales and sharp spines and at their largest can reach up to 24ft long. Ancient gwibers’ have even been known to reach up to 40ft in length! They have retractable fangs which can deliver potent venom, killing its victim in minutes. They move by slithering or gliding from place to place.
Often found in dark dank caves, woodlands and swamps, gwibers’ prefer to live near water where the humidity is high. They prefer fresh water rivers and lakes ‘with plenty of foliage to hide in and prey on fish, sheep, goats and on anyone foolish enough to stray too close to their lairs!
