Description Loki's helmet from the marvel movie Thor, work in progress.

This is my first pepakura armor project so i'm still unclear completely on what to do next, i'm pretty sure i need to fiberglass resin it, but i'm not sure, anyone give me suggestions?

This is incredibly impressive.
I was planning on working on one, so I had a pretty dumb question that you've probably been asked before.
did you print this off on letter sized paper?

Good Day, Miss !

I found your Loki Helmet WIP and have read the different comments posted up until now.

I am no Pepakura expert but, after a lot of research during the past year, I was wondering if you had thought about using Rondo to strengthen the inside of the horns.

Just in case you wouldn't be aware of this method, Rondo is about mixing fiberglass resin and body filler (Bondo) to get a somewhat liquid mixture which can be slush cast into the helmet, and especially the narrow spaces like the horns, and give them strength. The result is not as hard as it would be with fiberglass and resin, but it may be a good alternative.

If you already thought about it, or already used it, then don't mind my comment.

Anyway, it is a very nice build and I can't wait to start my own Loki Helmet.

Keep on doing great stuff !

Regards from France,
Dear-03

P.S. : If there is any English mistake of any kind, please forgive me. I am, obviously, not a native English-speaker.

Do you offer commissions for this helmet? If so, I am willing to pay! (I read somewhere in the comments that you made one that was too small for your head- I am a petite female 4 foot nine and could probably fit in a small size.)

I sooo sorry its taken me so long to reply to you comment. I'm sorry, but because of the amount of work there is left to do on it, and the lack of time I have, I just don't think I can do a commission for this helmet. Also, I know I said it was small, but I mean really small, and I haven't found a person yet who it fits on.

Again, I'm really sorry for replying so late. Perhaps in the summer when I have time, I'll consider doing another build of this helmet, but until then, I'm just not capable.

Is yours to scale? Mine seems to be working out smaller than expected. it might be my fault, I might have scaled it accidentally...

cclelouchfan In reply to Supersonic-Gabi [2012-12-27 16:08:54 +0000 UTC]

No, mine is also not quite scaled correctly, ending up small, and I've actually built this model twice, but I had done no scaling the first time (Because I'd never done a project like this) and the second I shoot to big, so it could be a problem with the scaling and it could just be a problem with the design itself.

are you printing on the recommended paper size? I just had to print on 8.5X11, so mine might have a problem there...

cclelouchfan In reply to Supersonic-Gabi [2012-12-27 20:56:22 +0000 UTC]

The first one I printed on 8.5X11 and it was small, the second time i printed on A4 paper but I scaled to big, but you can switch the settings to letter sizes paper. i think you need pepakura editor for that though

That is really good! I've been doing my own Loki Helmet build like this and I've been posting on my DeviantArt page. Yours looks really well built - the horn on mine is angling the wrong way...

Well done!

Suggestion:
Give it at least one layer of fiberglass on the inside for strength (if you would like to; you can also put padding inside the helmet for a ferm fit and comfot) and to finish it off; give it at least two coats of (water-based or Aqua) resin on the outside. you may have to finish it of with a tool that'll help to carve finer details into your helmet if some of the resin has filled into the details you made when constructing the helmet. If you have Adobe flash player, here is a link for you to have a look at for some guidance at fiberglassing and resining your helmet : [link] you can also download this episode by right clicking 'grab this episode [M4V]' and save target as.

Did you use just regular printing paper, or a different type of paper?
I was just wondering because I made the horns of the helmet using the design (will be making the full thing next month, hopefully) and I used regular printing paper.

Also, is there a difference when using Pepakura viewer or designer? Because I used the viewer to print mine....and it seemed a bit small (maybe the owner of the template did not fix the sizing then, as she said she would).

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

cclelouchfan In reply to ScarafileProductions [2012-07-25 20:54:51 +0000 UTC]

I'm not sure exactly whats its called, but i used a little bit thicker paper that comes like 2 peices of letter paper side by side, so i cut it in half and printed on that.

pepakura viewer is only for viewing the files, you can't change scaling or anything, so for this particular model, its scaled to print on A4 sized paper which most printers don't print. to change the printing paper size you need pepakura designer (which is also free except for saving and exporting files) and is available to download off the pepakura website. you can also change the scaling with designer. i had the same problem you did, where the helmet ended up small. so i suggest downloading designer and doing all the changes necessary before moving on. also keep in mind that the scaling is tricky to get right and you might end up having to build the helmet again to get it right.

Sorry for rambling so much, I hope this somewhat helped.

Most printers dont do a4? i thought that was the standard size for printers :S did you mean A3? I just dont want to print it out wrong thats all! xx

ScarafileProductions In reply to cclelouchfan [2012-07-27 22:23:25 +0000 UTC]

Ah, alright. I shall find out what that paper is called and get myself some (if my printer can handle the thicker paper).

Ah, alright, thanks for the help. I shall now download pepakura designer, once I can find it. >.<

May I ask what you scaled your helmet to? Maybe I can use that as a starting point and adjust it from there... XD

No, no, your rambling helped a lot, thank you.
I also loved how your helmet turned out.
I can't wait to see the finished product!

dear god that is amazing. I've downloaded the design, and I've been dying to make it, but I just don't know how to print it out, or what on! whenever I try, it scales it wrong. Did you have to take it to a printing place to get it on the proper material and size? I really don't know what to do

nice work on pepping this, have you considered putting some spray foam in the horns to keep them sturdy

Thanks!

in theory, it sounds like a good idea, but the horns are just so skinny, I'm not sure i would get much farther then the first 3 inches or so. Perhaps I can use it for my future projects though, so thank you.

There's this stuff called apoxie sculpt or magic sculpt, it's an epoxy clay and I've heard it's really awesome. You can get it on amazon, that's what I'm going to use when I get around to something like this. Great job so far and thanks for the link.

Nicely done, how well does it fit on your head?

If you wanted to resin and fiberglass it I would have suggested doing the horns in 3 seperate sections and putting them together as you went. It'll be hard getting fiberglass and resin to the very ends of them.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

cclelouchfan In reply to KaiserLee [2012-07-01 01:40:25 +0000 UTC]

Thank you!

Well, I didn't quite get the scaling right, so its too small for my head, but i figured out how to get it correct now, so I'm going to build the larger one for myself and give the smaller one to my friends who's head it fits(and because she's been begging me for one since I showed her the model) . And thanks for the tip, on the bigger one, I'll make the horns in 3.

and then i was thinking of making your Amon mask, so we'll see how that goes ^_^ Thanks again for the great model.
