Description
This is my entry to Game Artisans latest contest. The goal was to redesign any character from the Wizard of Oz universe.Now I have to confess in not staying true to the original scarecrow(ie stupid and lovable). The primary reason for this is that I've wanted to do a crazy scarecrow type character for awhile now, so I compromised, I made a slightly cartoony scarecrow with a psychotic mentality.
Did this as a hand painted texture practice, still not liking my style, plan on making major changes to my next attempt.
Lemme know what I should do next, and of course what you think of the model

I think that would be really fun to do, sadly I dont really do character art stuff anymore. I've found I spend most of my personal art working on environment art being that's what I do professionally. Who knows though, maybe it'll happen someday

And thus was born the Wizard of Oz version of Jonathan Crane (Batman's Scarecrow).
Either way, I gotta say I'm loving this redesign. It looks both incredibly natural and very intimidating. I would love to see this in a movie, video game, or anything of the like.

I can totally picture a game based on this character, something of the likes of Banjo-kazooie or Crash Bandicoot

looks angry or enraged but i wouldn't say twisted or crazy by his looks. Though it looks good

i think it needs more shadows for the dark crazy feel
and normal map fo realism

I've to say, it's one of the best things I've seen this far.
Both, in image quality and in concept.
The image is flawless, you can see its madness just from it's face. And the outfit in general is great.
The concept is also great, since an evil scarecrow is the complete oposite of the Wizard of Oz's concept.

This is really good. Great texturing and modelling, you've used the polys very well. Lots of nice little details.
The only thing I'd change is the eyes. You could remove them, just have black holes, that would be more spooky. If that's not to your taste, make them a bit more vague. They are too human at the moment.

I actually tried removing the eyes and it looked a little too creepy for what I was going for, reminded me alot of Oogie boogie from the nightmare before Christmas. I may post a render of it if people are interested. Thanks for the crit

the more interesting fact is that our Serbian peasants used to wear such, and some still do :3
although they're quite wear-able master-peaces
