rough pencils/graphic inks

In 2015, the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer 3-Day posted a picture of this dashing superhero on their official website. It truly captured his essence magnificently, and it’s been in my back burner of future drawings ever since.

If you’ve ever taken my photo, you’ve likely heard me half-jokingly bark at you to not make me look fat. I’m often not a fan of how I look in photos. Michael Der, the photographer who took this photo has a knack for sometimes making me look like an absolute rock star. This was the first of those times. I have since gotten to know him fairly well, as he has been the official photographer for the event ever since and my group and I shamelessly mug for the camera every time we see him (along with thousands of other walkers). It’s to the point where he will making a point of hanging out with us at every event, if only for a few minutes. In San Diego, in November of 2023, I showed him my progess of this drawing and he encouraged me with his blessings.

Every artist needs a great self-portrait, but I came up with this instead. I’m a black and white artist that sometimes dabbles with color. I always like using my pink pens, especially when it’s a happy and positive drawing. I love the delicacy and also boldness in this drawing. His chin might be a little to pronounced, but a superhero SHOULD have a pronounced chin, don’t you think?
