Description Artist: Simone Bianchi
Colors: Me

Simone Peruzzi needed some help on this issue of Astonishing so they called me and Laura.

I love coloring/ghosting/assisting another colorist for a few pages, I feel like I learn a lot trying to emulate what they do. It's refreshing.

Another one of the pages I helped out with.

After seeing your art here on DA I went out and bought this issue today. Beautiful work! I'd never seen THREE colorists on one issue before though. I'm wondering which of the pages are yours and which of them are the other colorists? Or did you all three work on every page?

Oh and I was a little ticked to see that none of the colorists were credited on the cover. How lame is that!

your colors are just awesome, Christina. Awesome. Seeing Miss Frost as a good guy still messes with me. I'm almost 2 decades behind w/X-men (shaddup, I'm old)... she was part of the Hellfire Club when I was reading.

Next time can you put the pencils side by side for comparison?

I don't like the Emma painted face in panel 4, It is nicely done but it doesn't go with the rest of the page, did the penciller fail to draw it in?

Beautiful work!

I have a question, more so on the technical side. Simone Bianchi's pages are grayscale, and the colors tend to mesh together; do you flat these or do you have them sent out?

It'd seem like you'd have to approach it differently for his work (or I'd imagine) but who knows

Fantastic stuff Christina!

CeeCeeLuvins In reply to WScottForbes [2009-04-29 04:32:57 +0000 UTC]

Yes, his stuff is grayscale and there's even color in some of the shading. When I colored these it was a little tricky cause when you color ANYTHING grayscale it tends to muddy up your colors.

I had to do a bit of lineart/grayscale manipulation to make sure it didn't muddy things up too much. It definitely made for a different longer workflow than I'm used to.

Then again, recently I've noticed that I'm working on a LOT of grayscale stuff. XD

I can imagine! Simone is an incredible artist. MUst be an honor when they ask you to ghost color his pages.
Also, you mentioned that black gutters were a no, may I ask why? I've used them before but when you said they were a no-no, made me sweat a little bit, haha!

so you use multiply-color"for your brush" over greys?

no, I never do multiply or screen or dodge.
