Interesting capture!
I like the concept a lot and how you've set-up this piece to convey the concept of it all there.. it's a shame the focus isn't as sharp as it could be as a few details are then lost because of it, and the impact isn't quite the same with things being quite blurry.
Still, the lighting isn't too bad and the point of view is cool as well. Perhaps you could crop this into a square so that it's more balanced and composed all in all... you could do that by cutting out a bit of the right there.
Other than that, it's a lovely photograph.

When I look at this photo, I can sense that there are many stories and fun times behind it. I think that chess can bring people together, and I love how you've portrayed that here. The fact that the pieces are spilled all over also signifies that something might've happened. Great concept!
Technically, I think this photo could use some work. The focus is blurry, and the photo is quite grainy. Keep your ISO speed on the lowest possible with the lighting circumstances, and try keeping your hands still - a monopod or tripod might help, if you're looking for ways to fix this.
What I like about this photo is how you've taken it from an above angle, it adds some uniqueness and appeal, and the composition is lovely in general. I like how the colors contrast, and the checkered background really adds to the photo as well!
So, to sum it up, if I were to improve anything I would try to sharpen the focus and lower the noise level a little bit. But you've got a great perspective and composition going here!

This is a really nice idea and you did a good job putting it together. I would've liked to see more of the dark pieces there, along with the white ones though; they would've be great of contrast if they were mixed together. And you might want to try something a little more "risky", as this looks like a very safe way to capture chess pieces. With a chess board, you could get any kind of masterpieces if you tried long enough and with any crazy idea you could come up with. But anyway, I still love this piece and the bit blurry effect you have created here. Well done!
