Nice! A speed paint is like anything under 4 hours, lol, so this is a speedy. Or at least in my eyes, lol. Because how long would you take on a true illustration? And you can pop out multiple speeds in 1 day. But anyways. Love the overall feel. When I looked at it I could feel the icy wind and the coldness of the night. I think I would slay that horse and sleep inside it...lol. Im evil..

VERY powerful picture. It tells me of grace, beauty, pride, and over coming of darkness.
The eyes seem to be looking in a mysterious direction, as the wind seems to gently blow through it's mane and tail. Goodness, I could tell a whole story!
Now, lets get to some crits eh?
Lets see... the neck I'll start with.
It looks a little bit shapeless. The muscles do NOT seem to stick out... I would have to suspect that climbing a mnt. and being on a rock like that, would be some serious work. Also, don't you think that this creature would have a longer/thicker coat of fur? I would never be able to see a horse be in that condition like that.
The legs are cool; I wish I could see more hoof. I like seeming feet; they show how the creature stands fully and can provide a better idea of how the character stands.
The bottom arch of the back seems odd. It is this nice, meaty shoulder (hump like almost) and then FWOOP, down to it's butt. The tail seems to blurr itself into this mass as well; whilst the white fur, tail and mane, stick out the most awesome, the rest is... meh.
Again, not much color is going on here. Blue, white, gray, black nothing else at all! If there was a dramatic sun set far in the back, or if those little poofs of snow (flakes correct?) were even a touch of another color (purple even! Yellow, orange!) but subtle, it would add SO much more flavor to the whole thing!
So that is what I think; in simple terms, you need more color, drama, and a wee bit thought of what the actual animal would feel in a condition such as that.
Good work!

You are aware that this is a speedpaint aren't you? The aim being to capture mood, atmosphere and the essence of the concept. The execution is perfect for the function especially in such a short amount of time. It seems your crit about lack of colour is a bit of a moot point seeing as though the lighting and colouration suits the piece and allows the composition to become solid and allows all the elements to come together in a cohesive and sensible manner. If the piece were meant to encompass a sunset then I do believe it would have been in the first place. In your opening statement you talk of how the piece speaks of overcoming darkness. If there was a sunset then that would automatically be void and so would become something a lot less interesting, despite lighting being prettier. Something as beautiful as a white horse, standing strong and defiant against the darkness and the hostile conditions would then become a pretty picture of a horse on a rock and take the drama out of the piece. The lighting currently would not effect the colours of the snow flakes, simply because the light source appears to be from the front, as if it's behind us as viewers, and being as though it is strong enough to illuminate the horse and surroundings so well there wouldn't be any hint of other hues or colourations from the falling snow flakes. If you've ever been in a car in a blizzard with headlights on you can see this sort of light in action.
As for the lack of detail in the horse, may I say once again that it is a speedpaint and horses are incredibly complex creatures to draw and paint. It would be completely possible to take more than 2 hours to fully detail a horse to a realistic degree which would also need the environment to be fully detailed in order to make the elements work together, and considering the entire piece took 40-50 I don't think any mention of under detailing can be made here.
Sorry to systematically destroy the crit but I can't help but notice that basically every point was fundamentally flawed, no offence meant.

I forgot to mention the reason for not seeing so much hoof and the way the back slopes is because you are viewing the animal on a slight angle. And the light.. it is meant to be in somethign similar to moonlight in terms of colour, obviously this is much brighter than actual moonlight but i like the colourings. the lightsource could not be shown in the image becuase it is shining from the side and out of the view.
