"Please, Reala! Don't leave me here!" NiGHTS's hoarse voice called, fists pounding against the Ideya Palace, and sobs shook her thin frame.
His heart tightened at the desperation in her voice, and unwillingly, he turned around, golden claws clasped behind his back and expression a careful mask of disdain. "I tried to warn you," he stated coldly, but anger began to break through as he continued, "But did you listen? No! You can listen to no one, not even your own twin brother!" His arm swept out to the side in a harsh gesture, and straightening up, he spoke through clenched teeth, grasping his emotions anew in clenched fists. "What has happened here..." He took a breath and enunciated the next words. "Is nobody's fault but yours." She could only stare at him, slack-jawed. Meeting her gaze for a mere moment, he turned away--quickly, before she could recover--and flew back towards Nightmare. He lost a piece of his soul that day.

I started this over a month ago; only just now finished~ But it was wortthhhh it.
Cause yeah, I tried to shade. ;w; I'm sure I messed up in places; advise me! Should certain places be darker, lighter? Touch ups anywhere?
Not only that, but I also joined ! You should all join too! That's where the little story came from; it was my application for Reala~ (The characters I've thrown in there so far are Reala, Deca, and Irah~)
Soyeah, this piece wasn't originally gonna have a story, but~ I liked the way it was written, and got a free plug so~ Yayz.

Shading seems pretty decent. I think you should shade some the objects in the background a little more; they seem a little too two dimensional when compared to the characters. And on the characters themselves, I suggest darkening the edges of their heads so they have a better sense of roundness to them.
When it comes to advice on shading in general, the best I can muster is that you should look at objects in real life. Examine how their shadows are cast, and how the light reflects off of them. Maybe do a few quick still lifes of objects.
Another piece of advice is that you should try to have an idea where the light source in your image is coming from.
I never got a chance to play Nights, I hope Sega does something smart for once and rerelease it in some form.

NiGHTS, being a Nightmaren just like Reala, is supposed to work for their creator, Wizeman, but she became rebellious. She refused to listen to orders, so Reala recieved commands to imprison her in that Ideya Palace there.
Oh, and for the record, all Nightmarens are genderless; I just use the pronouns I do because it's easier to just pick one rather than call them both 'it' all the time. If you have any other questions about NiGHTS 'n stuff, feel free to ask.

When I make a picture, and write a story with it, I always feel like one or the other is missing something that its sibling has. Just a feeling. You did a good job though.
