I was hoping this 'AI Art' nonsense was going to burn itself out like the fad it was supposed to be. However, a few weeks ago I was organising my favourites and I noticed that an artist I greatly admire had taken down all their artwork, then I saw another had done the same.

It was done not only in protest of the huge influx of 'AI generated art' that has flooded DeviantArt this past year, but also the way this supposedly 'generated art' is produced by an algorithm searching the internet for images similar to what the users text prompt say, then it reconstitutes those images into a new piece of 'art'. Doesn't sound very 'artificially intelligent' to me, more like a 25% different scam, as no one has asked the owners of said images permission for them to be used.

Gallery and Community, a gallery for people to share their artwork, that one communication with have that isn't language or mathematics, that one thing that is us trying to express our souls. I've made some lasting friendships with DeviantArt, I've shared resources, techniques, ideas... everything from witty banter to deep meaningful conversations... but you can't make friends with an 'artificial intelligence algorithm'.

DeviantArt, get back to your roots. Gallery and Community. Take all the time, energy and money you're investing in this 'AI Art' nonsense and put it into making your website like it was before Eclipse... you know, remotely user friendly.
