Description These spats are the first costume piece I have ever made myself. I made them for my steampunk costume.

I really liked the idea of the classic white because my steampunk look is mostly black, so they are a very nice contrast. I also found the really awesome buttons at a fabric store that have a very antique look.

I hand sewed them and it took working on them for a few hours each day for four days.

what fabric did you use on the white part? doesnt it stain with dirt?
it is really nice, i wish i had one of those, you are right, very antique

I used duck fabric, very similar to canvas but much softer. I did wear them outside and they did get dusty. but as a costume piece this is very common for me... lol

i see. i am looking for some fabric that would get white for good, i want a shoe like this to use often ^^

hmmm... I think that anything you wear on your shoes is going to get dirty, just naturally by being there. if you used leather or fabric coated in some protective substance it would not get dirt in it. or maybe think about a fabric that will be easy to wash and care for.

I just wanted to let you know that I hand washed them and all the mud and dust came off.

so i could make of the same material of yours and take it off like some sort of socks and wash it regularly

yes, the spats are not attached to the shoe but only held on by a piece of elastic underneath it. no problem.
