I have wanted to do this ever since I saw the one that Katie De Sousa AKA did! The idea is to take a coloring book page and color it in the style of a classical painting. Here is the one she did: [link]A couple years back I gathered a few coloring book pages, but didn't really have one that spoke to me, until after Tangled came out (Sorry Ariel!). Even then I didn't want to do any of the coloring book images you see all over for Tangled, so with a bit of digging I found one I liked. On May 14th I gave int o my muses' fan art urges, and worked on this pretty much all that weekend! I finished it up today, it just needed a few tweaks. I could nitpick at it more, but I am not going to ...right now.

how exactly did you do this? did you re-draw the picture and paint it?

No re-drawing, I just took the coloring book page, made it a good size (300 DPI TIFF file), then colored it. Photoshop layers are really handy for this, I had several of them. First (bottom)layer is white,then the background, then stuff like skin, hair, dress. The top layer is the line art, which is set to multiply and locked so I can color under it without worrying that I'd accidentally work on my line layer.

Thanks! Though I don't think it is quite as insane as the speed paints I have seen for the coloring book pages. I have no idea how they do such great work in 2-3 hours when this took me 3 or so days!

This is amazing. It's almost hard to believe that a simple coloring book page can be taken and then used to create something as wonderful as this. It truly looks like a painting. You did an excellent job.
