Description
I wanted a modern day version of my favourite mage.I thought long about changing his hairstyle but opted not to, still not really sure if this was a good decision.
Left out his stubble, since I think he has such a handsome face without it.
This is the closest reference of my own screenshot that I can find on the web.

I'm a bit unhappy
trying to make him look "realer" than a game character:
- Did I go overboard with the contrast (of his face features) or maybe it's not enough?
- Should I add the stubble? (next time, yes)
- darker hair (check - re-uploaded)
- Should I darken the background? (check - re-uploaded)
- Since I had to add features hidden in the screenshot, did I do ok? Something seems off...

I think the contrast is fine - the shading looks looks great! The things I would do to make it look more real, would be to fix some of the limitations of the CG imagery.
His hair is a little too even and perfect, for example. Particularly that part in the middle, where it comes out so straight. And on a real person, I don't think the eyebrow/nose area would look like that. If he was scowling as much as he looks like he is, that fold of skin under his eyebrows would be darker, or disappear. His eyebrows are too perfect for reality. And it feels like he's missing his eyelids a little, especially on screen right.
I think there would probably be a little contact shadow near where his collar meets his neck also, if this were in real life.

Of course you're right, maybe I should use real life references besides the screenshots to get all those aspects better done and make it look more life-like

If you allow me, his hair looks a bit too blonde -like platinum blonde instead of his natural reddish-blonde. The rest is perfect.

but I can't go any darker anymore, or it'll get too messy
I'll keep stubble in mind for next time
