Description © Coral McBride --- Do not alter or use without my permission.

Created in Photoshop and a lot of painting using a Wacom Tablet.

I was experimenting with new techniques and decided to finish this piece because it was so much fun. As a child I always wondered why the Prince ending up marrying this Princess because she was such a nasty piece of work. As an adult, I still wonder why.

I have also posted an enlarged copy of the details at [link]

I only have PSP but I haven't even studied the brush tools yet

I boughtPSP ver X but haven't really used it although I used the earlier versions I purchased. I bought an educational version of CS2, which I only used to edit photos but once I became interested in photomanipulation and digital painting I knew nothing else could replace it and am now saving (read struggling)to purchase a full version of CS3. Having said that I know that amazing creations can be done in PSP and I believe that the brush set up is very similar. I love the brushes and am using them more and more. Time to learn more is the problem and I think that we all suffer from that

Yes you are right. Time shortage and too many distractions stopped me in the past to learn many things. I still have PSP 9 and wonder if I should update or try to get CS too. CS seems the most popular program these days.

I really think it depends what you want to do before you go to the expense of updating or puchasing CS, CS2 or CS3, which are quite expensive although I can't praise Photoshop enough. I am discovering more each time I work with it, although I have seen some amazing work done with PSP here. I think early versions are fine to begin with but eventually you will need more. (Just my two cents worth

I'd love to get my hands on a pc where CS is installed that I could have a look what it has in store that PSP hasn't. Only then can I decide whether a change would be worth it for me.

I just read that CS4 is due out in October. The reviewer wasn't happy about quite a few of the changes from CS3 but as it was a beta version, I hope that some of these may change. I found an informative article, which may help you to decide [link] I think one of the main concerns regarding Photoshop is that it has a steep learning curve and then of course there is the price. I think everyone struggles when they first begin learning it and I often wished I had someone I could ask for assistance. If you do purchase it, I will try to help you and can give you some turorials that are easy to start with and some of the things that I have learned this last 18 months. I have given other people here help when they asked me. A friend did a course on Elements and achieved some beautiful results. I didn't really like the interface very much and it is limited if you want to do more advanced work although some people swear by it. Someone here did some brilliant fractal layering in PSP, not sure who it was now but I fav'd it. You could do a course.....come to think of it LVS has Photoshop online courses extremely inexpensive...$25.00 or similar and I know that some software is obtainable at an educational price if you sign up for the course. I intend to do some of their courses but time is the problem.

That's a fantastic link. Thank you so much! Considering everything said I think I stick to psp for a little longer. I am not a psp crack but I know all the tools that I need. I bear your advise in mind though about the reduction on Photoshop for people taking a LVS course

cemac In reply to baba49 [2008-09-30 15:04:53 +0000 UTC]

Yes, something to keep in mind. I notice that they have a great price for CS4 but I don't think it will be available to Australian students. They teach PSP courses and the academic price for some software looks good. [link] and
[link] There are so many programs I would love to learn and/or learn more about, Vue, Bryce, Poser, Painter, Photoshop.....I must make more time, I must make more time....if I say it often enough, perhaps it may happen

Thank you so much Carol for these links. The software is more expensive in my country they don't just use the normal exchange rate but Corel is so much cheaper than Adobe that I will definitely stick to Corel for the time being. You tempt me to book a lesson with LVS. I am thinking about buying Paint Shop Pro Photo X2 - Education Edition and apply for the Digital Darkroom with PSPP XI course or just start with Digital Darkroom with PSP 9/X - 101 *SS* to see what the courses are like.
As you say, one ought to have 36 hrs a day and not only 24 to be able to learn everything that's offered. If I do take the course I shall have to put a close sign in my dA gallery for as long as it lasts.
I am very grateful for your links. Thank you so much Carol

You're very welcome Barbara. Beautiful country you live in by the way. Adobe is very expensive here also and because of the sudden drop in our dollar, probably much more so now. I am not sure if the discounted prices on LVS apply outside of the USA but hope so. LVS has a very good reputation on one of the newsgroups I belong to and looking at the curriculum outline it does seem very comprehensive. I suppose it is like anything else in life, you get out of it what you put into it. I used to think 36 hour days would be great but lately I am leaning more towards 48 hours. Glad to have been of help
