Description

Today I was talking to an old Japanese lady. First we talked about small things like stuff about being an international student. Then she asked me if I was doing fine with 衣食住 which basically means every day life concerning food, clothing and shelter. I said, yeah I don’t have many problems in life. Then she said, “There is no person in the world with out a worry. You can speak to me about it if you like.” To be honest I have been down on the dumps lately. So what the heck since I have no idea who this person is I decided to tell her, “Well, I guess if anything, I’m having people problems.” To my surprise she suddenly started laughing. After her strange outburst of laughter she said “I knew it.” She pat my back and told me, “If it makes you feel better, no body really figures that out. If that’s the most of your worries then you must be living a happy life.” I nodded and sort of agreed. My problems weren’t a big deal I just tend to dwell on them since it’s the only thing going on. So I decided to ask her “So, when do you think you got your life figured out? How do you know what you want to do in life? Is there just some kind of break through that just hits you one day?” Her face became a little more serious and said, “The only break through I had in life was when I realized that nothing was coming. It was then I figured I might as well stop waiting and just do what I wanted with out debating too much if it was worth it or if it would make me happy....and that made me happy.” We soon parted ways and it made me think, even when I become an old lady like her I’d still be worrying about the same things? So I decided to stop worrying now because I have all the time in the world to ponder and reflect when I get older, but now’s the time to do what I can and what I want.
