Description Anthracobunids are a group of Eocene-age perissodactyls known from very limited fossil remains. No complete cranial or postcranial material is known. This is a tentative reconstruction of Anthracobune wardi based on specimen H-GSP 96258, an exceptionally complete mandible missing only its incisors. The skull was approximated by referencing the skulls of early rhinos and tapirs. Although no postcranial material is known for this animal, its body proportions and much of its ecology and behavior would have been similar to that of modern tapirs.
