SPONSOR: Kraise Munitions

SPECIES: Gene-spliced Krith Hybrid

HOMEWORLD / PLANET: Xel Mirus

The ancestral Krith of Xel Mirus were a short statured hive-minded insectoid species that cared only for the continued existence of their migratory colonies. Capable of enduring a wide range of temperatures and biomes, their populations were densest in the equatorial regions where dense jungles and underground networks spanned much of the planet’s landmasses. Their society was complex and layered but had no need or desire for any sense of technology as they were perfectly capable of achieving everything they needed on a biological level.

This relatively peaceful existence lasted for several millennia before the arrival of Dominion expedition fleets. The arrival of this new invasive species to their home world was swift and overwhelming. The reptilian Dreynar of the Skal Dominion were swift to establish dozens of footholds on the planet and set about extracting its resources for their war effort against an extra stellar threat against their own empire.

Colony after colony. Drones, Workers, and Queens alike all fell to the Dominion’s technological might. Prior to such, their only experience in conflict were meager border disputes between neighboring hive colonies. But the longer the conflict went on, the more the Krith realized that to defeat this new foe, they would have to evolve their ways. An eventual consensus was made between the hive queens. The initial concept of a dedicated warrior class was alien to them as their drones were more than capable and vast in numbers. But it was also not beyond their ability to see the value in light of their current plight for better specialization.

It was with this singular notion that the Krith began taking in the bodies of their defeated enemies to their spawning pools for the queens to process. The Krith began incorporated their enemy’s organic matter into their own to spawn newer more capable defenders to their hives. The new strain of Krith warriors were quick to turn the tide in their favor, but only for a short while. As the number of these new Krith grew, so too did a dissonance within the hive mind. These warrior Krith had become more independent, detached from the collective will and conscious of the hive.

At the time, the Dreynar viewed the Krith as nothing more than a local nuisance to be swept aside as they continued stripping the planet of valuable resources. Their scientists however were quick to take note of the Krith’s rapid adaptation and resilience to their forces. Some sought to capitalize on this and began capturing subjects for study, finding their genetic makeup to be quite malleable.

It was with this that a small faction took it upon themselves to weaponize this new discovery. Across onsite and off-world facilities, multitudes of Krith were captured for a flurry of studies to test the viability to use their adaptive nature against the enemy knocking at their own threshold. The Krith genetic code was forcibly enhanced and mutated by genetic manipulation and splicing in the pursuit of creating the perfect weapons of war under their command.

However such strides were too little too late. Bit by bit, as the Skal Dominion slowly crumbled under the relentless assault of their void-borne enemies, hope and resources became more and more scarce. These research facilities would eventually all go dark when the supply ships ceased arriving all together. A clear sign that their builders had either finally abandoned them completely or succumbed to a much darker fate that they had so effortlessly dealt to so many others worlds before.

In the end whatever history there was of the original Krith species and the true fate of the Skal Dominion remain a mystery lost to the eons. The planet of Xel Mirus is currently a mere shell of its former self. Another ruined world to count among the victims of war it had no right to be a part of.

▶ Skills / Abilities

STATS: ATK (5) / DEF (5) / DEX (8) / CHR (0) / INTL (5) / HP (7)

SECONDARY JOB:
Dock Worker – So long as you show up on time and do what’s asked of you, dock work is easy to come by for all sorts of folk. Kreya lucked out. Though, with her rather... ungainly physique and trouble with vocalization her tasking’s are primarily focused with assisting in the transfer of goods from dockyard warehouses to the local distribution shipping vessels. Not glamorous or easy work conditions but still a good place to hear local chatter from the relatively high turnover ground floor workers. She wears a simpler, more bare-bones harness system to appear less conspicuous among the other workers.

SKILLS / ABILITIES:
- Claw Swipe (ATK) – CQC engagement option via gauntlet energy blade, gauntlet claws, or her own chitin claws should the gauntlet be discarded or unavailable.
- Energy Shield (DEF/INTL) – Mircocrystal generators in her gauntlet project out a semicircular energy shield barrier for protection. This energy shield is solid enough to even act as a stepping stone for others to reach higher places or overcome certain obstacles if needed.
- Reactive Senses (DEX) – Either on two legs or on all fours, Kreya can dart through her surroundings with uncanny grace for evasive or engagement purposes. Parkour for days.
- Sensor Scan (INTL) – Kreya can reconfigure her helm sensors to see in different spectrums for more insight into her surroundings. Objects in very close proximity can be scanned through her gauntlet emitter for additional analyses.
- Babel Codex (INTL) – Constant work on updating her language libraries and adding new translation algorithms into her harness system allow Kreya the ability to learn and speak unfamiliar organic or synthetic languages with relative ease given enough time and exposure to them to build the necessary framework.

▶ Personality

Patient // Attentive // Efficient // Quirky // Selective // Unassuming // Evasive // Stoic // Austere

Comparing her to a lost dog would not be that far of a stretch of the imagination. Casually floating around the edges of activity, looking inwards with curiosity but no strong intentions of intermingling. With her speech impediments and poor comprehension of social norms, Kreya mostly just keeps to herself unless directly addressed.

Kreya favors the simpler things in life. Most of her outside ventures are dedicated to exploring the wider open spaces of natural terrains that planets have to offer. City side ventures are pretty much only good for her to practice urban terrain navigation skills, or parkour as some call it. Otherwise she is quite disinclined to go out into dense, public civilized spaces, indoors or out if it’s not for bounty reasons. However the presence of favorable company increases her tolerance for public casual ventures.

Her appearance may be seen as beastly by some sentient life forms, but at her core Kreya is an eager young soul just looking for her place in the cosmos. Having never truly experienced a life of her own until finally escaping the research station of her origin, her experiences with the greater galaxy both terrifies and entrances her. She has no knowledge or any interest in learning if she is truly the last of her kind or if her creators will one day come back looking for her.

And on the subject of her creators, she has a natural tendency to gravitate towards any saurian, scaled, or reptilian species she encounters in mutual settings. A remnant of her past genetic programming she surmises. She describes it as feeling less like herself and more subservient to their whims should any be directed at her. It is a conscious shift that unnerves her greatly and takes considerable willpower to resist it entirely.

Self-preservation is what drives her to go on. Kreya will push long and hard to achieve established goals. If some have to die for betterment of the whole, then so be it; an engrained mantra from her Dreynarian creators that echoes within her head. Any ‘morale compasses’ that conflicts with such will be put to the test of cold hard logic.

When not on the hunt or on dock duty, Kreya passes the time making sure her gear is kept clean, functional, and up to date. Most of this care and attention goes into maintaining her ship and updating the code to her translation algorithms. Other hobbies go on to include surfing the deep-net for relevant intel on points or persons of interest and listening to music.

LIKES: Personal space, organizing things, scavenging junk piles for usable parts & things, warm places, listening to string instruments

DISLIKES: She has a degree of magic-phobia in the general sense but especially so towards the darker life-manipulating kind, engaging in long conversations, being the center of attention, bright lights & colors, anyone touching her stuff, anyone touching her, needles

EXTRAS:
- Kreya has an identification brand/scar on her left leg that reads KR374 in Dreynarian and she has a greenish-yellow colored blood.
- Much to her own detriment at times, she is physiologically incapable of common intelligible speech without her helm and cowl on. Chirps, clicks, whines, hissing and other bug noises are what she offers naturally. Her cowl detects these vocalizations, codes it, and casts it to a processor in her helm that applies several dozen layers of translation algorithms before being projected out into something that can be understood by other sentient life forms. With this, so long as she has the proper language data files she can ‘speak’ almost any language. And yet even with this, her ability to convey meaningful words and proper speech patterns is like that of a young child.
- When it comes to food, Kreya isn’t picky. Even things others would consider detestable or inedible are on the list of possibilities for the Krith, though she does have her favorites and limits. And while her appetite can be voracious at times, she can also go long periods without proper sustenance. Doing so however does hinder her ability to recover from any suffered injuries effectively.
- She has ties to the Blackwell Trade Association, a large trading conglomerate that oversees the shipment of all sorts of goods ranging from physical items to data packages and even finances. As they were the ones to essentially ‘discover’ her and her specific talents, they’ve since used her to further some of their long withheld clandestine motives in the galactic market. She has no objections or stakes in this strange practice since it fits in line neatly with her natural programming. So long as her actions don’t reflect back at them, she’s free to do as she pleases just so long as any jobs they task her with are completed in a timely manner.

▶ Personal Gear

[Vestment Ref]

Kreya has little in terms of personal possessions that she can truly claim to be her own. The majority of which was salvaged from the research station she awoke in. Everything else was simply scavenged or acquired by other means as her understanding in the use of ‘currency’ is quite basic.

The Psiosis Battle Harness System is a purpose built set of gear designed specifically for Krith physiology by the Dreynar scientists. Consisting of a helm, cowl, and other specialized tools, it was originally designed for combat oriented strains of Krith test specimens to increase their effectiveness in clandestine operations. Kreya’s particular harness gear is a composite of several incomplete versions cobbled together and thus only offers her only base level operational features.

- Mk12 Psiosis Helm – Aside from it being just a head covering to mask her appearance, in her attempts to be more ‘likeable’ among the other sentient species of the galaxy she’s installed an extra subroutine into the helm’s weapon sight links across the ridges of her brow. This enables the sight links to project emotive eye expressions to better convey her feelings in a more universally understood format when she fails to find the opportunity or proper words to do so. More practical uses for it through include being able to see the world in multiple spectrums, an internal HUD, and filtering bright lights from hurting her eyes.

- 7 Layer Hakvar Cowl – A lightweight reinforced fibrous material with embedded nano-link cable strands that enable near instantaneous data transmission between the helm and cowl for various functions such a vital readings, vocalization transmissions, and minor physical defense against natural elements and projectiles.

- Phase 4 Ziretti Power Gauntlets – Without this, Krith specimens would be largely unable to operate many if not all tools and other common apparatuses for the sake that it grants them an opposable digit. It also grants enhanced grip strength to enable the wearer to efficiently climb walls and tear through most light defenses. But perhaps its more notable functions are the built in microcomputer accessed through the exterior emitter to assist with technical operations and the palm emitter to scan and analyze items in close proximity. Other offensive utilities include a flash forged hard-light blade from the exterior emitter and plasma bolt caster from the palm emitter.

SHIP: Were any database able to even recognize it, the vessel would be identified as a Dreynarian Koros-Class Reconnaissance Drone. However with the passage of time and lack of compatible replacement components, its appearance has deviated a fair bit from the original design. She calls it Chip.

WEAPONS: Gauntlet Plasma Bolt Caster, Hard-light Energy Arm Blade, CS-6 Striker Rifle

▶ History

Kreya wasn’t born. Kreya wasn’t even hatched. Kreya, or rather KR374 at the time, was made. Meticulously crafted by a race of reptilians called Dreynar. At least that’s what she later came to learn of when consciousness was eventually granted to her. Memories of her early days are difficult to recall and she does not like talking about her place of origin, that cold lifeless station drifting aimlessly and hidden among the icy debris of a planetary ring.

A very long time ago, from inside her fluid filled tank, she could see the blurred forms of the scaled ones and others like her. The multitude of lights always made it difficult for her to focus on any one thing. The air was cold and so were the floors she walked upon when they finally let her out. There was always a couple of scaled one at her sides during the many days they put her to trials and tests and likewise the others of her kin.

They exchanged her liquid tube for a cage that would turn cold at their whim. Something about safety and preservation. The scaled ones recorded her performance on the trials they presented her. A failed test meant more time in the cold sleep cage and drill needles. The needles themselves were only a mild bother as they bored through her dense chitin exoskeleton, but the liquid that came from them burned her insides in more ways than she could recall. KR374 did all she could to placate the scaled ones but they seemed bothered, irritable, unpleased by her kin and the results they gave.

This was the life she knew. A never ending ritual of trials and tribulations. As KR374’s ire for the cold sleep cage grew, the less and less scaled ones there seemed to be around her during the trials. It eventually became too much for her to stand. The one and only time she resisted going into the cold cage was the last time she laid eyes on the scaled ones. This was the time of her deep sleep.

As fate or sheer luck would have it, the scaled ones and their formless foes would eventually clashed into finality, leaving the station behind, enduring beyond its creators. Within the dimly lit corridors, sealed doors, and experimental chambers, a single Krith specimen remains dormant in cryo-stasis. On the cryo-tube, a flickering, barely readable display screen reads in Dreynarian text: Specimen KR374, genetic strain unviable for current parameters, awaiting disposal protocol.

Ages more would pass before deep space scavengers and salvage crews would eventually rediscover the derelict station. Unfortunately for them they would all learn that though the aged infrastructure was long abandoned, it was still more than capable of defending itself with the dwindling power remaining at its core.

Bit by bit the curious explorers and opportunists would delve into the station and plunder what treasures they could before fleeing the station’s defenses. Those who fell victim would leave behind signs of doom to those that would come after them. Each time they would come, the deeper they would get, the more of themselves they left behind, the less they were able to take with them.

Operating on now ancient protocols and dwindling power reserves, systems eventually began shutting down in a vain effort to slow its power drain, and preserve its secrets. It was after the successful routing of yet another salvage crew that sector containing KR374’s cryo-pod was deactivated. With no power to the cold sleep cage, the lone Krith eventually came to and stumbled free from her would be tomb.

For the next twenty years, cold, hungry and alone, KR374 wandered the abandoned station freely. The facility itself seemingly allowed her to do so since it was the only approved life sign that existed on its list. She scavenged off the bodies of the intruders and her kin when needed to satiate her baser needs.

KR374 would eventually find her training harness gear and learn how her creators maintained them, leading her to learning their language and other secrets of the station. The Krith learned the name of her creators, the Dreynar, and hints to the plight that motivated them into the creation of her kin.

She was different in only one way from her other kin aboard the station. Where her kin were all varying forms of Krith, KR374 was combination of a master’s intelligence and a slave’s ferocity, she was both Dreynar and Krith. But she lacked the understanding to see how her Krith biology was far more dominant that the Dreynar genes within her. Was this why they cast her aside? Because she was not more like them?

This place held no such answers for her. Instead, she looked to the assorted craft left behind from ages of attempted intrusions. KR374 would leave this place. She had learned enough about her creators to find a suitable vessel, but it would need... adjustments to reach the places these other ships had come from according to what she could decipher from their computers. Patches and repairs were made to her escape ship by hand with what diagrams and schematics were available to her.

Making it to the nearest star-port was the easy part in comparison to learning how to fit into this new setting. A monumental challenge for the lone Krith as she had to start with learning the language of the folk there. This newfound freedom was initially overwhelming. Sticking to backstreets and alleys of the settlements to explore the sights and sounds. Scavenging along the way to learn what she could from them without direct interactions. KR374 slowly upgraded her gear and understanding of how to fit in with the greater galaxy.

The dockyards of space ports and colonial settlements seemed to be the best place for her. Such a mix of cultures and species was ripe pickings for the information she needed. First learning the common tongue of the area, then getting a handle of the basic operations of the dockyards. Anything else was bonus material that was either marked for later inquiry or disregarded altogether. It was on one such exploration run that fate would change her life once more.

KR374 had broken into a warehouse keen on looking into a recently arrived shipment of electrical components for her ship when a dockyard worker spotting for an incoming loader spotted her. Failing to give their compatriot a clearance signal, the loader operator ran head on into the nearby storage containers. The distraction was enough to cause some of the containers to be knocked down and injure other workers in the immediate area and cut off KR374 from her escape route.

The commotion was enough to lure the work foreman out onto the site to start scolding the workers. Not willing to take the insurance hit and equally not really knowing all their workers to begin with, KR374 was believed to be among the already employed workers and told to help clean up the mess. She hesitantly complied, seeing as the other workers didn’t seem to know each other that well to begin with.

This went on for a while until her registry was questioned at the end of the work shift. Her name, Kreya, was an improvised response to being asked what others should call her by. The branded scar of KR374 her left leg was inspiration enough. Sensing some potential in her, and being the shady work manager that they were, a compromise was made. She would do special work for them and they would waive the necessary documentation to allow her to work there.

This work started off with the basics. Receive products, stock products, transfer products. Once she proved to be competent in this, then they sent her out to scout out the local the competition. Just to look around see how they did things, and if the opportunity presented itself, maybe take note of their delivery schedules... in the event any ‘accidents’ were to happen. And once her technical prowess became more apparent to them, other taskings included sabotaging equipment and stealing goods and documentation.

Kreya had quickly become a prized asset of sorts to the foreman and even his own superiors over at the Blackwell Trade Association. He allowed her work shift to flex as needed to accommodate the special requests he and his bosses made of her for the ‘benefit’ of the company. These tasks reminded her a little of the ones her Dreynarian creators once made her perform, but in this case her new masters were far easier to please.

This notoriety eventually caught up to her on one outing. Though despite running into an ambush setting from the opposition, she managed to run off and lure them into an area where she managed take them out one by one. Kreya made quick work of the less than combat efficient warehouse workers. Her ‘managers’ at the time took note of this and decided to apply her in a new facet of their ‘business’ in addition to the already basic work asked of her. Hunting other ‘sentients’ as a ‘job’ was intriguing to her. Likely because of her genetic programming, it was practically second nature to the Krith. It was what she was created for after all.

After a few years of shadowing bounty work on the side of the dockyard work and espionage, she eventually stumbled across...well, fortune in a way. More specifically, they found her after she had landed a particularly evasive target. Outside talent merking in on contracts is never good for business, but she was beholden to the Blackwell Trade Association as it was. If linking up with this ‘Fortune’ group didn’t conflict with her already established obligations, what harm would a few extra hunts on the side do?
