Description
So this little furball is a little special. The original request for this drawing was made a long time ago but because of a lack of time I never finished it. It's basic design was there but I had to pause my activities. Not so long ago I started doing drawing streams though and because of this I finally had enough time to finish it. Because of the big time gap I had to change the original design quite a bit. It was a struggle but the end result is pretty darn fluffy. Meet Suribat the Meerkat x Wombat chimera. You might wonder if this is actually a chimera or a fat Meerkat. If you want to find out I would recommend looking at some Meerkat pictures so you can spot the differences. I do have to admit that this combination looks a lot less like a chimera/hybrid though because of the pretty big similarities of the 2 animals that where combined. Anyway I hope you like this little guy even though it looks more like an existing animal than a fantasy animal. The name is based on the latin names of the original animals. All Chimeras that I make are original characters.

Basic Information
Behavior:
Suribat are relatively slow animals that live in groups of up to 15 Suribat. They are more active during the night than day but if the temperatures allow it they can also go out during the day. They dig tunnels where they rest but can usually be found grazing and looking for food. Even though they are considered slow they can run up to 40 km/h if needed and can keep this up for about 2 minutes. They will act aggressive towards any intruder of their territory. The group is lead by a dominant male and female. Both male and female fight for dominance. Young from other Suribat will be killed and both males and females often get rejected after losing their dominant position. This is often how new groups are formed. Suribat can leave serious injuries with their claws and teeth. They usually carry their tail close to the body to prevent predators from grabbing it but they put them up in the air to warn the group for any danger. In case of danger Suribat retreat into the tunnels. They block the predator with their big bodies and kick them with their hind legs.
Habitat:
Suribat live in relatively warm climates although they can survive temperatures of -10 °C. They can be found in forests and open fields where they dig their tunnels.
Diet:
Suribat are herbivore and eat bark, herbs, leaves, grasses, roots, seeds and sometimes even flowers. Digestion can take up to 10 days.
Appearance and maintenance:
The thick fur of the Suribat has a sandy color. The Suribat are usually 80 cm to 1 m in length and their tail has about the same length as the body. They can weigh up to 40 kg. Their fur needs almost no maintenance. The amount of digging and eating usually keeps their big front teeth and claws in good shape. When in captivity these should be checked every month and clipped if it prevents the Suribat from closing his mouth or walking properly. The pouch of the Suribat is backwards to prevent soil from covering up the young in the pouch.
Reproduction and lifespan:
Female Suribat give birth to 1 to 4 young at a time. This can happen whole year round. The gestation time is about 20 days after that the female carries one of the young herself. Other females in the group carry and take care of the other young. They carry these for six months. The young Suribat drink milk from their 'new mom' until they are 15 months after which they are introduced to other food. After 18 months Suribat are considered mature.
