Description Bad Luck

The dunes were glistening in the star light, like slivers of glass speckled over the still warm sand. The village seemed quiet, even with the cultists around, or maybe Wren’s room was just far enough into the centre of the town, far enough from all the trouble.

With her clothes soaked in her own sweat, she began to gasp for air desperately. It repeated all again. She merely had two nights without nightmares, without the feeling that her ceiling was coming down, suffocating her. After she talked with Sayo last night, she stayed in the horned god for a long while, until they closed. Unsure where else to go, she returned to the Blue Mountains and sat down by the campfire in the Wabanaki camp, unable to find any sleep.

Feeling a scream crawling up her throat, she quickly cupped her hands over her mouth, as she realized that she was not alone.
He was still sitting there, beside her bed. The hat pulled down over his face.

Asking, if he would stay, was awkward for her. She was too proud to confess, but the closer the moment was coming, when he meant to leave, the nervier she became.
She did not want to become the victim after all, appear weak, but the fear and worry was growing inside her, infesting her thoughts. The concern that he could see her likes this, with her eyes widened in fear, stifling a scream, almost unable to breath, was frightening her.

She was bad luck. That was what she used to say. Without her, Sayo would not be in this situation. What was happening to Sayo was a horrible thing in Wren’s opinion, either way. However, without them being friends, it would maybe not have come this far. It was too late for that now and she would not sit down someplace safe and wait for it all to be over.

And what was with Cy and Egil? She was dragging them into the danger as well - torn between worry and trust. This was not doable without help, but in the same moment she did not want to ask for it.
She was not selfish enough to accept help without regretting it right afterwards, or maybe she was just too naive.

That still was not the end of it all. It might be a different story, but her doubts about her past were growing as well. She asked for help, thinking that it was all over and done with, hoping that whatever Evan would find could not endanger him, nor herself.
What if there was still one of them alive? What if she just sent her friend into the crocodile pool, to walk a tightrope and return alive, or to be eaten by the beasts that won’t care about one more dead body rotting in the forest.

All of her friends were involved in something that could put them into great danger and all this just because of her. No matter from which angle she tried to look at it, she was always the one turning the scale. Of course, this world and all the new crazy things that came with it were not safe either, but she asked for help, even so she knew they would not reject her, or maybe exactly because they wouldn’t?

She tried to take a deep breath, lowering her arms again slowly. Her gaze fell over to her right once more and only now she realized the chilly temperature in her room. Picking up her own blanket, she shuffled over the mattress and covered her ‘guardian’ with it carefully, who was sitting on a chair beside her bed, trying not to wake him.
