Ribombee made its way to Kanto by the way of returning tourists who unwittingly brought back Cutiefly in their souvenir lays.

Due to Kanto's lack of flowers the Cutiefly and Ribombee survived on the nectar and pollen of the Oddish family. Due to the toxic nature of the Vileplume's pollen and Gloom's nectar it gain the Poison typing over its former Bug typing, researchers are still trying to figure out why this change occurred.

Ribombee learnt how to fashion fallen Vileplume petals into new neck pieces to blend in and avoid predators. The toxins that exist in the nectar and pollen changed how Ribombee use to look. Their once bright and sparkling eyes have become dull and vacant, no doubt caused by the addiction of Gloom's sweet nectar. Its wings take on a bright and frighten red to scare off any predator who sees through it's disguise.
